CBW serves the DC Metro area and parts of West Virginia and Delaware, with offices in Springfield, VA, Richmond, VA, Hebron MD, and Baltimore, MD. Our primary focus is commercial and industrial customers in the region, with a specialty in property management companies. Capitol Boiler Works, Inc. is a privately held company serving the region since 1936.

CBW is currently seeking the right individual to fill a full-time opening for Commercial Preventive Maintenance Mechanic.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES may include any/all of the following:

  • Assumes responsibility for effectively completing electrical maintenance functions.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs heating, air conditioning and refrigeration units, including chillers, boilers, and heat pumps.
  • Troubleshoots malfunctioning heating, air conditioning and refrigeration systems to determine the cause of the malfunction.
  • Performs scheduled maintenance inspections, and adjusts, cleans, and calibrates various systems to assure proper system operations.
  • Replaces expansion valves, compressors, motors, coil units and other component parts.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs direct digital and pneumatic control systems.
  • Checks distribution systems for proper velocity, volume, temperature, pressure, etc.
  • Assists in training other technicians and staff in preventative maintenance of HVAC systems.
  • Prepares records and reports describing procedures, actions taken and recommended solutions.
  • Prepares and submits requests for supplies and equipment.
  • Responds to emergency service requests.
  • Documents test and inspection dates and results.
  • Completes work orders, lists materials issued and used, and documents electrical work repairs.
  • Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with area staff and with management.
  • Ensures that management is appropriately informed of area activities and of any significant problems.
  • Attends meetings as required.
  • Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or assigned.

Apprentices shall perform all duties listed above under the guidance of a journeyman mechanic combined with on-the-job training and any additional schooling as required.

Requirements:


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School/GED diploma
  • Knowledge of numbers, their operations, and interrelationships including arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills such as Microsoft, PM software.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in light commercial preventative maintenance.

Working knowledge of:

  • Electrical and wiring fundamentals.
  • Cooling and heating technologies.
  • Plumbing principles.
  • Refrigeration systems (CFC certification preferred)
  • Mechanical principles (NAPE 3rd class Training or equivalent is preferred).


LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to effectively present information in a one-on-one setting to members of management and fellow employees.
  • Ability to write legibly for form completion.
  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is preferred.


QUALIFICATION STANDARDS

  • Ability to perform essential job functions consistent safely and successfully with ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards/requirements.
  • Ability to meet and maintain all qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain reasonably regular and punctual attendance consistent with ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards/requirements.
  • Compliance with all personnel policies and practices.
  • Ability to comprehend and carry out safety sensitive duties according to company policies, procedures, and safe work practices.
