Job Description

Job Title: Field Operations Supervisor

Department: Operations

Reports To: Operations Manager

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Starting Wage: $32.00/hour

Position Overview:

The Field Operations Supervisor supports MVRTDs mission by overseeing day-to-day transit operations in the field and at the Transit Center. This role ensures safe, reliable, customer focused service by supervising and supporting drivers, monitoring performance, and coordinating closely with operations and maintenance. Reasonable accommodation will be made in accordance with applicable laws, including the ADA.

Essential Functions:

  1. Field Supervision & Operator Support
  2. Oversee staff the Transit Center Administrator and Scheduler.
  3. Conduct regular field supervision and on board ride checks to ensure adherence to safety, customer service, and service quality standards.
  4. Monitor driver performance, provide real time feedback, and assist with coaching and follow up training.
  5. Assist in incident and accident investigations as needed, including gathering statements and documentation.
  6. Maintain required certifications and assist with training and recertification of operators.
  7. Provide operational support to drivers in the field, including driving when needed, radio communications, problem solving, and service adjustments.
  8. Vehicle, Service, and Safety Oversight
  9. Support maintenance staff with minor operational needs (e.g., moving buses, basic checks as assigned).
  10. Ensure winter safety procedures at Transit Center and all MVRTD sites.
  11. Evaluate fixed route, shuttle, and demand response schedules for on time performance, efficiency, and rider experience; recommend adjustments.
  12. Conduct route and stop safety evaluations and propose improvements.
  13. Support integration of new services, routing changes, and time point analysis.
  14. Operate CDL required vehicles when needed, including during service gaps, driver shortages, or emergencies.
  15. Use computer systems for scheduling, reporting, incident documentation, and data analysis.
  16. Perform additional related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Experience in public transit, transportation operations, or related field preferred.

Supervisory or lead experience preferred; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Minimum age 21 with at least five (5) years of a valid drivers license and acceptable driving record.

Must hold or be able to obtain within six (6) months of hire, a CDL Class B with Passenger endorsement; MVRTD is willing to train the right candidate.

DOT Medical Examiners Certificate.

Ability to pass all required background checks and DOT regulated drug and alcohol testing (pre employment, random, and as otherwise required).

Ability to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and on call shifts.

Strong communication, customer service, and problem solving skills.

Ability to use computers and learn scheduling, dispatch, and reporting systems.
