We are looking for an experienced Commercial Credit Underwriter/Senior Underwriter to join our Commercial and Business Banking team in Denver, CO. This role focuses on providing credit judgment, support, and portfolio management for commercial relationships.

Essential Functions

  • Underwrite local and custom commercial credit requests generally over $5 million, including renewals, modifications, refinances, new money requests.
  • Analyze complex C&I relationships, including multi-entity borrowers, trusts, guarantor support, global cash flow, complex structures, collateral monitoring, covenants, policy exceptions, and transactions requiring tailored structuring or elevated credit review.
  • Evaluate borrower performance and repayment capacity, including cash flow adequacy, collateral support, industry conditions, management quality, and key risk mitigants.
  • Evaluate borrowing base, equipment, real estate, and other collateral-supported transactions.
  • Prepare concise, risk-focused credit presentations for transactions requiring elevated approval authority.
  • Manage a pipeline that includes both recurring portfolio requests and more complex new or expanded credit opportunities.
  • Partner with Relationship Managers to ensure deal structuring is sound and credit packages are complete.
  • Present and support recommendations to approval authorities and committees, including joint presentations with the Relationship Manager when needed.
  • May function as a lead underwriter and provide second-level review support.
  • Support modernization initiatives in credit workflow, tools, and help scale best practices across the team.
  • Ensure requests are processed in accordance with bank policy, banking regulations, and applicable laws.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 Qualifications

  • Requires a Bachelor's in Finance, Business, Accounting or a related field and 4 year commercial credit, business banking underwriting, spread analysis, lending, practices, procedures, or other directly related experience. A combination of education and experience may meet qualifications.
  • Extensive knowledge of commercial and/or business banking credit underwriting, spread analysis, lending concepts, underwriting practices and procedures.
  • Strong working knowledge of C&I loan requirements with the ability to identify risk and mitigating factors related to conducting a thorough credit analysis for approval.
  • Extensive working knowledge of balance sheets, income, and cash flow statements.
  • Strong understanding of commercial lending policies and procedures and general banking laws and regulations.
  • Ability to analyze complex financial information, business plans, credit reports, debt service coverage, leverage, liquidity, collateral support, and loan-to-value information, to develop well-supported underwriting conclusions.
  • Possess strong judgment and the ability to make sound decisions.
  • Ability to accept responsibility and handle confidential information.
  • Must have strong customer relations and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Must be a self-starter, dependable, accurate in completing responsibilities with strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Extensive working knowledge of various related software applications, including spreadsheets, word processing, and other applicable tools.

Underwriter I: Bachelor's degree and 2 years of credit analysis experience, working with large commercial loans, to include C&I or other directly related underwriting experience. A combination of education and experience may meet requirements.

Underwriter IV: Bachelor's degree and 6 years of credit analysis experience, working with large commercial loans, to include C&I or other directly related underwriting experience. A combination of education and experience may meet requirements. 4 years of direct C&I underwriting experience preferred.

Compensation

This position is eligible to earn a base salary in the range of $95,000 - $130,000 annually depending on job-related factors such as level of experience and location. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors such as but not limited to, level of experience, skills, expertise, location, education, and certifications.

This position is in-office.  Remote or Hybrid schedule are not available for this position.
