Assistant Varsity Volleyball Coach
2026-2027 School Year
Summary of position: The Assistant Varsity Volleyball Coach supports the Head Varsity Volleyball Coach in the leadership, development, instruction, supervision, and coaching of student-athletes participating in the Carrollton High School Varsity Volleyball program. The Assistant Coach will work collaboratively with the Head Varsity Volleyball Coach and Athletic Director to support the overall goals, philosophy, and expectations of the Carrollton Volleyball Program. The coach will contribute to the development of student-athletes by teaching fundamental and advanced volleyball skills, promoting teamwork and sportsmanship, encouraging academic and personal growth, and helping prepare athletes to compete successfully at the varsity level. The Assistant Varsity Volleyball Coach is expected to maintain a safe, positive, inclusive, and supportive environment that promotes athletic development, character, discipline, accountability, leadership, confidence, and school pride.
Reports to: Jacob Premo- Athletic Director of Carrollton Public School
Compensation: The Assistant Varsity Volleyball Coach will be compensated in accordance with the CEA Contract, Appendix B.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist the Head Varsity Volleyball Coach with planning and conducting effective practices that promote skill development, teamwork, conditioning, strategy, and player safety.
  • Teach and reinforce fundamental and advanced volleyball skills, techniques, terminology, and game strategies.
  • Assist with developing offensive and defensive strategies and implementing game plans.
  • Evaluate student-athletes' abilities, strengths, and areas for improvement and provide constructive feedback and instruction.
  • Assist in developing individual player skills and team performance.
  • Provide appropriate instruction and encouragement to help student-athletes reach their athletic potential.
  • Assist with preparing student-athletes for competitions and promote appropriate physical and mental preparation.
  • Support conditioning, warm-up, stretching, and injury-prevention activities as directed by the Head Coach.
  • Assist the Head Coach with evaluating player performance and determining appropriate practice and competition strategies.
  • Promote good sportsmanship, character, respect, discipline, and ethical behavior among student-athletes.
  • Foster a positive team culture that emphasizes commitment, accountability, teamwork, respect, and school pride.
  • Encourage student-athletes to develop leadership skills, self-confidence, perseverance, and personal responsibility.
  • Support the academic success and personal development of student-athletes.
  • Serve as a positive role model and maintain appropriate professional boundaries with student-athletes.
  • Reinforce team expectations, District policies, athletic department procedures, and established program standards.
  • Encourage student-athletes to represent Carrollton Public Schools positively both on and off the court.
  • Maintain effective and professional communication with student-athletes, parents/guardians, coaching staff, Athletic Director, school administrators, and other District personnel.
  • Communicate concerns regarding student-athletes, team activities, safety, behavior, or other matters to the Head Coach and/or Athletic Director as appropriate.
  • Respond to questions and concerns professionally and in accordance with District procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student-athlete information.
  • Follow all Carrollton Public Schools policies, athletic department procedures, league regulations, and MHSAA rules and guidelines.
  • Complete required coaching documentation, certifications, training, and other requirements within established deadlines.
  • Participate in required professional development and maintain all applicable coaching credentials and certifications.
  • Perform other duties related to the volleyball program as assigned by the Head Varsity Volleyball Coach or Athletic Director.
  • The position requires regular participation in practices, athletic competitions, tournaments, meetings, and other school-sponsored activities. The Assistant Varsity Volleyball Coach may be required to work evenings, weekends, and travel with student-athletes.
  • The position may require prolonged standing, walking, bending, lifting, and physical demonstration of volleyball skills and drills. The coach must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

Qualification
  • Previous volleyball coaching and/or playing experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of volleyball fundamentals, techniques, rules, strategies, and safety practices.
  • Ability to teach and demonstrate volleyball skills effectively.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the Head Coach, coaching staff, Athletic Director, student-athletes, parents/guardians, and school personnel.
  • Ability to establish positive relationships with student-athletes while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student-athlete development, sportsmanship, teamwork, academic success, and character development.
  • Must meet all applicable MHSAA coaching requirements and certification requirements within established timelines.
  • Must successfully complete all required District background checks and employment requirements.
  • Ability to serve as a positive role model and mentor for student-athletes.
  • Must receive a satisfactory response to 4205-F Authorization for Release of Information and Employee History Check Under 1996 P.A.189 of 1996; MCL380.1230b.

Must satisfactorily pass:
  • Law enforcement background checks with fingerprinting.
  • Personal and professional reference background check.
