Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
The APP cares and addresses health care issues to patients of all ages. Provides family health care to the patients of VARIETY CARE, following the standards of the Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH) and at the direction of the Medical Director and/or Supervising Physician.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Provides quality, comprehensive, accessible and cost effective patient care through clinical expertise, role modeling, mentoring, consultation, interdisciplinary collaboration and utilization of research.
  2. Performs clinical decision-making that is professional, innovative synthesis of knowledge, clinical evidence, research, scientific theory and nursing process.
  3. Practice excellence and technical assistance is promoted through helping relationships among nursing staff and across other disciplines - nurses, support staff and administrative staff.
  4. Follow protocols which provide medical authority when such are indicated in providing care.
  5. Performs physical examinations, screenings and assessments of patients.
  6. Selects orders and/or perform tests and procedures to augment physical findings.
  7. Utilizes appropriate laboratory tests using prescribed methods and techniques; determines normal and abnormal test results; and develops a health care plan based upon analyzed data.
  8. Define/document differential diagnoses and list differential diagnoses with most likely diagnoses included.
  9. Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as deemed necessary and appropriate for plan of care, in collaboration with supervising physician.
  10. Interpret data and diagnostic results for appropriate course of action including but not limited to blood gases, radiology, EKG, etc. in collaboration with supervising physician.
  11. Secures health histories from patients and notate findings and treatment course in patient electronic health chart including follow-up notes.
  12. Under direct and indirect supervision of a physician, diagnoses, plans and implements a comprehensive medical care plan based upon the patient's health needs.
  13. Provides continuity to an individualized health care program for patients by referring to or collaborating with VARIETY CARE physicians and other members of the health care team.
  14. Provides instruction and counseling to individuals, families and/or groups and respects the patient's personal desires in support of a caring environment focused on healing and preventive care.
  15. Identifies health care needs within the community and makes recommendations on comprehensive health care for patients.
  16. Assists in planning and providing in-service training as needed.
  17. Follows HIPAA guidelines and VARIETY CARE policy and procedures as it relates to privacy.
  18. Provides Telehealth services from remote locations connected to a reliable internet resource including a provider's home when necessary.
  19. Support Variety Care's accreditation as a Patient Centered Medical Home and our commitment to provide care to all Variety patients that is Safe, Effective, Patient Centered, Timely, Efficient, and Equitable. Provide leadership and work with all staff to achieve the goals of the "Triple Aim" of healthcare reform-to improve the experience of care, improve health outcomes, and decrease healthcare costs.
  20. Embodies the strength of personal character. Places value on being an open and honest communicator who displays high moral and ethical conduct, integrity, adaptability, and sound judgment. Must be a leader in the department and community. Result-oriented problem solver who is responsible and accountable.
  21. Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements, Special Skills or Knowledge:
  • Recognition as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing with completion of an accredited APRN program; certification by the appropriate national Certified Practitioner organization.
OR
  • Recognition as a Physician Assistant by the Oklahoma Medical Board with completion of an accredited PA program; certification by the NCCPA.
  • Possesses knowledge of the theory and practice of medical diagnostic techniques, methods and procedures; of community health programs and resources; and of supervisory principals and techniques utilized at VARIETY CARE.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work effectively and tactfully with the public and co-workers.
  • Exercises good judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions; and in expressing ideas effectively both orally and in writing.
  • A desire to serve patients and be self-motivated. You must have a good bedside manner and the ability to make decisions in emergencies.
  • Ability to work in a multi-faceted, fast pace environment.

Preferred Skills or Knowledge:
  1. Bilingual (English/Spanish).
Essential Functions:
  1. Able to lift at least 25 pounds
  2. Able to assist patients onto and off of exam table when asked or directed.
