Job description

This is a manager-level position with the Harrah's central utility plant (CUP) that will operate and manage the central plant that provides chilled water, hot water and emergency back-up generation services to Harrah's Hotel and Casino and in some cases, to third party customers.  The position will be part of the Harrah's Engineering team and will develop and leverage best practices related to CUP operations. This position has responsibility for staffing, departmental budgeting, preventative and corrective maintenance, special projects, facility capital planning, customer relationships, and operations for Harrah's central utility plant.

  • Prior CUP operations, maintenance and management experience (minimum 5 years).
  • Building automation system and CUP troubleshooting experience required.
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office products)
  • Good communication skills (oral and written)
  • Retro-commissioning experience a plus
  • Engineering or similar degree a plus
  • Oversee the safe and reliable operations and maintenance of Harrah's central utility plant.  
  • Manage department budgets and capital investment projects and have overall profit and loss responsibility.
  • Develop special-project budget estimates and timelines to be communicated to the Chief and Director of Engineering.
  • Possess strong troubleshooting skills for assets typically utilized for central plant operations, emergency generator power supply systems, plumbing supply/waste systems, HVAC and electric/electronic systems.
  • Ensure complete compliance with all regulating entities affecting the field of work including, but not limited, to Fire Department, Building Department, Health Department, OSHA, NLRB, EPA, NEC, IBC, and NFPA. 
  • Manage contractors for all outsourced services to ensure a high level of execution; compliance with any laws, codes, or standards; maintenance of warranties; efficiency of performed services; and alignment with budgeted commitments. 
  • Develop and maintain service standards for the CUP operations and maintenance as well as exceptional inter-departmental collaboration, communication and support.
  • Provide leadership to foster a work environment that promotes teamwork, efficiency, and productivity. This includes ensuring recognition and respect, enhancing employee satisfaction, recruiting high-caliber staff, offering continuous training, and setting an exemplary standard as a role model for the department.
  • Conduct meetings on a regular basis to review operations and maintenance practices, efficient CUP operations, and safety programs.
  • Ensures CUP operations and maintenance is being monitored, tracked and reported to ensure optimum efficiency and reliability. Maintain and review daily logs and paperwork to make sure everything in the Central Plant is being maintained properly, readings are being taken, blow downs, and softener regeneration is taking place.
  • Leverage building management and maintenance management system data to drive continuous improvement in processes and efficiency; to ensure optimum staffing; to manage inventory; to minimize variable costs and life-cycle costs while maintaining CUP reliability; and to understand the tradeoffs between ongoing repair and maintenance versus capital investment.
  • Maintain a CUP emergency response plan with a thoroughly trained and prepared staff and standby services that are ready if primary CUP services are interrupted.
  • Possesses strong computer abilities using basic Microsoft Office programs, maintenance management programs and building automation systems.
