Van Sales Rep information

What is a van sales rep?

Van Sales Reps, short for Van Sales Representatives, are professionals who sell products directly to customers or retailers using a company van. They are responsible for delivering goods, managing inventory, building customer relationships, and meeting sales targets within a designated territory. Their role often involves both sales and delivery tasks, as well as promoting new products and collecting payments. Van Sales Reps are commonly found in industries like food and beverage, consumer goods, and wholesale distribution.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a van sales rep, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Van Sales Rep, you need strong sales acumen, product knowledge, and a valid driver's license, often supported by experience in route sales or FMCG industries. Familiarity with handheld sales systems, inventory management tools, and mobile invoicing applications is typically required. Excellent interpersonal skills, negotiation ability, and self-motivation help build lasting customer relationships and meet targets. These skills ensure efficient route coverage, increased sales, and customer satisfaction in a competitive, mobile environment.

What are some common challenges faced by van sales reps and how can they be managed effectively?

Van Sales Reps often encounter challenges such as managing tight delivery schedules, maintaining accurate inventory on the go, and building relationships with a diverse range of clients. Effective time management and route planning are essential to maximize daily sales visits and minimize travel time. Strong communication skills and adaptability help in addressing customer concerns and upselling products, while staying organized with digital tools ensures inventory and order accuracy. Regular collaboration with warehouse staff and the sales team also helps streamline operations and meet sales targets.

Job description

Sales Representative - Private Label

Join a growing private label accessories business with an established foundation and significant opportunity to open new doors. This is a high-impact sales role for someone with strong private label experience, industry relationships, and the drive to build meaningful new business.

The Sales Representative will focus on expanding existing accounts and developing new retail partnerships across major retailers, department stores, off-price, and specialty channels. This is not an account management role. The right person will bring a proactive, business-development mindset and the ability to create momentum from day one.

What You Will Do

  • Drive new business development for a private label belt and accessories business.
  • Build relationships with key retail accounts and identify new growth opportunities.
  • Partner closely with leadership, design, production, and overseas quality-control teams.
  • Support product development conversations and translate customer needs into commercial opportunities.
  • Help strengthen and expand a successful existing business while opening new channels.

What We Are Looking For

  • Required: private label experience within belts, accessories, apparel, or a related product category.
  • Strong sales and business-development background, ideally with established retail relationships.
  • Experience calling on major retailers, department stores, off-price accounts, or specialty stores.
  • Confident, entrepreneurial, and highly motivated. Someone who enjoys creating opportunities.
  • Product development exposure is valuable, though not required.

Role Details

  • Full-time, onsite role based in Van Nuys, California.
  • Five days per week in the office for local candidates.
  • Relocation support may be considered. Exceptional candidates may be considered for a remote arrangement.
  • Compensation will align with experience, relationships, and ability to deliver new business.

This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned private label sales professional to make a visible impact, build new partnerships, and grow with a collaborative, well-supported team.
