Job description

We are seeking an experienced Software Calibration & Validation Specialist to lead calibration, validation, and release of embedded braking software features for medium- and heavy-duty commercial vehicles to join our team specializing in Engineering for our location in Troy, MI. This role will translate system requirements, performance targets, and regulatory standards into production-ready calibrations and validated software releases. 

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways: 

  • Product Reliability & Failure Prevention: I will proactively identify potential product failure modes, interfaces, functional interactions, and root causes using structured failure analysis methodologies, helping improve product reliability, reduce risk, and prevent issues before they reach customers. 
  • Advanced Modeling & Analytical Decision-Making: I will leverage modeling, simulation, and analysis tools to evaluate product performance against system, subsystem, and component requirements, enabling data-driven design decisions that optimize functionality and reliability. 
  • Strategic Product Platform Architecture: I will support the development of scalable product platforms by evaluating architectural alternatives, conducting trade-off analyses, and ensuring alignment between future market needs, stakeholder requirements, and product development strategies. 
  • High-Quality Software Development: I will apply robust software engineering principles and industry best practices to design, develop, and verify software solutions that contribute to reliable, high-performing products and seamless system integration. 
  • Comprehensive Verification & Validation Leadership: I will create and execute validation plans, assess risks and failure modes, analyze test and simulation results, and provide technical recommendations that ensure products meet performance requirements and customer expectations. 
  • Requirements Engineering & Systems Thinking Excellence: I will translate stakeholder needs into clear, traceable, and verifiable requirements while maintaining alignment across the product lifecycle, ensuring system-level decisions support business objectives and technical success. 
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration & Communication: I will build strong networks across engineering, product management, manufacturing, and other stakeholders, while communicating complex technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences to drive alignment and informed decision-making. 
  • Results-Driven Problem Solving: I will navigate complex challenges with sound judgment, resourcefulness, and an inclusive mindset, making timely decisions, leveraging diverse perspectives, and consistently delivering high-quality results that move projects and the organization forward.

Additional Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Automotive Engineering, or related field. 
  • 7+ years of calibration and validation experience for safety-critical systems, preferably in commercial vehicle braking, chassis, or powertrain products. 
  • Hands-on experience with ETAS INCA or Vector CANape, dSPACE or NI HIL, MATLAB/Simulink, CANoe/CANalyzer, and Python. 
  • Experience executing vehicle test programs under varied road, surface, load, and environmental conditions. 
  • Working knowledge of FMVSS 121, UNECE R13, ISO 26262, ASPICE, and ISO/SAE 21434. 
  • Strong data analysis skills, including signal processing, controller tuning, statistics, and performance evaluation. 
  • Experience with vehicle E/E architectures, diagnostics, valve drivers, redundancy, requirements traceability, HIL regression, scripting, and CI/CD validation workflows. 
  • Strong troubleshooting, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills. 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience with ABS, EBS, ESC, RSC, trailer brake control, AEB interfaces, brake torque blending, or air brake systems. 
  • Experience with medium- and heavy-duty commercial vehicles, tractors, vocational vehicles, buses, or trailers. 
  • Familiarity with proving ground testing on split-, wet, gravel, snow/ice, and high- surfaces. 
  • Experience supporting customer reviews, supplier coordination, PPAP, and production software releases. 

To be successful in this role you will need the following: 

  • Brake Controls Calibration Expertise: Strong knowledge of braking systems including ABS/EBS, ESC/RSC, traction control, hill hold, trailer brake control, and air management, with the ability to tune controller gains, thresholds, calibration maps, estimators, and adaptation logic across diverse vehicle configurations. 
  • Validation & Testing Excellence: Proven ability to develop and execute comprehensive validation strategies across MIL, SIL, HIL, bench, dyno, vehicle, and proving ground environments, while creating DVP&Rs, test procedures, coverage matrices, and automated HIL test cases for both normal and fault conditions. 
  • Data-Driven Analysis & Compliance Focus: Advanced skills in analyzing vehicle performance data such as wheel speed, brake pressure, slip ratio, yaw rate, and deceleration to validate system performance against KPIs, FMVSS 121, UNECE R13, OEM requirements, and functional safety objectives. 
  • Systems Engineering & Collaboration Skills: The ability to maintain calibration traceability, release documentation, risk assessments, and software release readiness while supporting ISO 26262, ASPICE, ISO/SAE 21434 activities, customer sign-offs, issue resolution, and mentoring engineers to drive high-quality product outcomes. 

Education, Licenses, Certifications: 
College, university, or equivalent Bachelor's degree in Engineering or appropriate STEM field is required. 
Post-graduate (Master's) degree relevant to this discipline area may be required for select roles. 
This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations. 
Experience: 
Prior Senior or Lead Engineer equivalent work experience in a relevant discipline area is required with a demonstrated track record of technical problem solving and quality decision making. Knowledge of MS Office tools is preferred
