What does a valuation manager do?

A Valuation Manager is responsible for assessing the value of assets, businesses, securities, or intellectual property for various purposes such as mergers and acquisitions, financial reporting, tax compliance, or litigation. They use financial modeling, market research, and industry analysis to determine fair value. Valuation Managers often lead a team of analysts and work closely with clients, auditors, and other stakeholders to deliver accurate valuation reports and support strategic decision-making.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a valuation manager?

To thrive as a Valuation Manager, you typically need strong analytical skills, a solid understanding of financial modeling, and a degree in finance, accounting, or a related field, often supported by professional certifications such as CFA, ASA, or CPA. Familiarity with valuation software, advanced Excel functions, and financial databases like Bloomberg or Capital IQ is essential. Excellent communication, project management, and stakeholder engagement skills help you explain complex valuation results and lead teams effectively.
