Responsibilities include: • Following UVHS protocols, feed animals 2-3 times per day based on their individual needs and health plan. Record feeding and eating data. • Following UVHS protocols, clean and disinfect animal housing and other areas of the shelter. • In accordance with shelter procedures and individualized health and behavior plans, provide exercise for the animals. Record exercise data. • Become familiar with each animal and their normal patterns and behaviors. Notify supervisors of changes in activity, behavior, or general wellbeing. • Implement behavior and enrichment activities as prescribed by the Animal Behavior Coordinator or Supervisors. • Using a conversational approach to adoption counseling, interact with potential adopters and show animals. Focus on making quality matches. Complete adoption paperwork with attention to detail. • Be actively welcoming and warm toward volunteers, clients, adopters, and other guests. Provide them with support and guidance as needed. Prepare pantry items for pick up. • Assist in processing and recording donated non-cash items such as pet food and supplies. Accept donations at the front desk, following protocols for documentation and money handling. Knowledge & Experience: • Experience working with and handling dogs & cats of different sizes and temperaments • Basic knowledge of animal behavior and positive reinforcement training principles • Experience with the use of automated tools (ie. database navigation) • Ability to lift 40 pounds and sit/stand for extended periods of time.
