Job description

Animal Care Technician
Pay: $20-21.50/hour
Contract Role
Responsible for providing daily animal care and husbandry in compliance with research protocols, animal welfare regulations, and facility procedures. Duties include monitoring animal health, assisting with research procedures, maintaining accurate records, cleaning and sanitizing equipment and facilities, and supporting overall laboratory operations. This role works in an animal research laboratory environment under biosafety conditions.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of related experience in areas such as:
    • Livestock handling and care
    • Veterinary assistance
    • Animal husbandry
    • Animal research or laboratory support
  • Must have or be willing to obtain Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) certification within 12 months of hire.
  • Comfortable working directly with animals in a laboratory setting.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements
  • Ability to work in varying environments, including hot, cold, humid, noisy, and fast-paced conditions.
  • Must be able to lift up to 70 pounds occasionally and 50 pounds frequently.
  • Attention to detail, teamwork, and strong organizational skills are essential.
  • Must be able to learn quickly, follow procedures, and maintain professionalism while working with animals and research staff.
  • No allergies to animals or feed dust.
  • Clear vision required; prescription eyewear permitted.
