These roles often involve travel-related skills, certifications, and the ability to work in dynamic environments, providing opportunities to visit different locations as part of the job.

What is the difference between an Airbnb and a vacation rental?

A vacation rental is a property rented out for short-term stays, often managed by individual owners or property managers, while Airbnb is an online platform that connects travelers with hosts offering vacation rentals. Airbnb listings can include various types of properties, such as apartments, houses, or unique accommodations, and require hosts to create profiles and manage bookings through the platform.

Vacation Rentals involve listing and renting out individual properties for short-term stays, often managed directly by owners or through online platforms. Property Managers oversee multiple rental properties, handling maintenance, tenant relations, and operational tasks. While Vacation Rentals focus on guest experience and property listing, Property Managers coordinate the overall management of rental portfolios. Both roles are essential in the rental industry but serve different functions and require different skill sets.

What are vacation rentals?

Vacation rentals are properties that are rented out to travelers on a short-term basis, typically for a few days to a few weeks. These can include houses, apartments, condos, cabins, or villas that offer amenities similar to a home, such as kitchens and multiple bedrooms. Vacation rentals are often booked through online platforms and provide an alternative to hotels, giving guests more privacy and flexibility during their stay. They are popular among families, groups, and travelers seeking unique or local experiences.

What are the main challenges faced by professionals managing vacation rentals, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals managing vacation rentals often face challenges such as maintaining high occupancy rates during off-peak seasons, addressing guest concerns promptly, and ensuring properties are well-maintained between stays. Effective communication with guests, leveraging dynamic pricing tools, and working closely with cleaning and maintenance teams are key strategies to overcome these hurdles. Building strong relationships with local service providers and staying updated on industry trends can also enhance guest satisfaction and operational efficiency.

How to find a job that pays you to travel?

Vacation rental companies, travel agencies, and remote work platforms often offer jobs that involve travel, such as property managers, travel consultants, or remote customer service roles. These jobs typically require strong communication skills, flexibility, and sometimes specific certifications or experience in hospitality or travel industries.

How much can you make with a vacation rental property?

Vacation rental hosts can earn varying income depending on location, property size, and occupancy rates, with average annual earnings ranging from a few thousand to over $50,000. Successful hosts often manage bookings through platforms like Airbnb or Vrbo and may need to handle maintenance, guest communication, and pricing strategies to maximize income.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Vacation Rental Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Vacation Rental Manager, you need strong organizational skills, property management experience, and a solid understanding of hospitality standards, often supported by relevant certifications or real estate licenses. Familiarity with property management systems (PMS), booking platforms like Airbnb or Vrbo, and digital marketing tools is essential. Excellent communication, conflict resolution, and customer service skills help you build positive guest relations and address issues promptly. These competencies are crucial for maximizing occupancy rates, ensuring guest satisfaction, and maintaining efficient operations in a competitive market.

Job description

About Beachside VR

Beachside Vacation Rentals (a part of Stayd collective) is a performance-driven, hospitality-first company managing a growing portfolio of 300 vacation rental homes along Florida's Space Coast. We combine high operational standards with technology-forward systems to deliver exceptional guest experiences while protecting owner assets and driving results.

At Beachside VR, we believe great hospitality lives in the details and our Housekeeping team is at the center of that experience.

Full Time:

  • $45,000 base salary + performance-based bonus structure with On-Target Earnings (OTE) of $55,000
  • Company vehicle provided for field operations
  • 2 weeks PTO

About the Role

Beachside VR is seeking a hands-on, high-accountability Housekeeping Manager to lead and elevate the cleaning operations across our portfolio of 300+ vacation rental homes.

This is not a sit-behind-a-desk management role.

This is a highly hands-on, in-the-field leadership position. Our Housekeeping Manager is expected to be actively present in homes, supporting the team in real time, conducting inspections, coaching housekeepers, troubleshooting operational issues, and ensuring every property meets Beachside VR standards before guest arrival.

This role is for someone who leads from the front by coaching teams in the field, maintaining high standards, solving problems quickly, and ensuring every home feels truly guest-ready before arrival.

You'll oversee daily housekeeping operations, pre-arrival inspections, team performance, quality control, and operational efficiency while partnering closely with Operations and Maintenance leadership.

You'll report directly to the General Manager and play a key leadership role in the continued growth of Beachside VR.

What You'll Do

Lead the Housekeeping Operation

  • Lead, coach, and develop our team of housekeepers and inspectors
  • Create a culture of accountability, urgency, teamwork, and pride in execution
  • Provide real-time coaching and feedback in the field
  • Jump in when needed and lead by example

Own Quality & Standards

  • Conduct property inspections and ensure homes meet Beachside VR standards before guest arrival
  • Enforce cleaning checklists, staging standards, and operational consistency across all homes
  • Monitor re-cleans, guest cleanliness complaints, inspection trends, and quality scores
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and team development

Manage Daily Operations

  • Oversee daily turnover scheduling and team coordination
  • Ensure homes are completed on time and guest-ready
  • Manage cleaning supply inventory, linen flow, and operational organization
  • Coordinate with vendors and internal teams as needed

What We're Looking For

  • Previous experience managing housekeeping or cleaning operations required (vacation rentals, hotels, hospitality, or similar environments strongly preferred)
  • Truly understands the vacation rental and hospitality cleaning
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish strongly preferred
  • High attention to detail and strong quality standards
  • Comfortable using technology and mobile apps such as Breezeway, Slack, Airtable, and operational software
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record
  • Someone who is comfortable spending the majority of their workday in the field and actively involved in operations

Compensation & Benefits

  • $45,000 base salary + performance-based bonus structure with On-Target Earnings (OTE) of $55,000
  • Company vehicle provided for field operations
  • 2 weeks PTO
  • Technology-forward work environment with strong operational systems and leadership support
  • Opportunity to grow within a rapidly expanding vacation rental company
