Job description

Duties: The Staff Urologist serves as a full-time member of the Surgery Service organization, providing high-quality, evidence-based care to Veterans with conditions of the genitourinary system. The incumbent delivers care through both in-person and virtual modalities / practices under the general supervision of the Chief of Surgery. Clinical Care Provides comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis, and management of adult and geriatric Veterans with a full spectrum of urologic conditions, including benign prostatic hyperplasia, urologic malignancies, hematuria, nephrolithiasis, urinary tract infections, incontinence, and erectile dysfunction.

Conducts scheduled outpatient clinics (in-person and virtual) for consultation, follow-up, chronic disease management, and ongoing care. Develops patient-centered treatment plans based on clinical assessments, diagnostic results, and Veteran goals. Procedures and Surgical Care Performs basic and advanced urologic procedures consistent with granted privileges, including cystoscopy, vasectomy, urodynamic studies, bladder biopsy, orchiectomy, ureteral stent placement, retrograde studies, TURP, TURBT, ureteroscopy, and stone management.

Provides pre-operative and post-operative care, including history and physical examinations, review of diagnostic studies, surgical assessments, and documentation in the medical record. Evaluates patients for changes in health status, lab values, and vital signs prior to surgery. Offers consultative Urologic Surgery services appropriate for the ambulatory capabilities of the Manchester VAMC.

Telehealth and Access to Care Utilizes VA-approved telehealth platforms, such as Clinical Video Telehealth (CVT), VA Video Connect (VVC), and electronic consults, to extend specialty care throughout the catchment area. Ensures timely triage and management of consults, providing recommendations and specialty input to referring providers. Quality, Compliance, and Collaboration Ensures care aligns with VA clinical standards and evidence-based practices.

Monitors clinical activities for compliance with VA policies and uses findings to improve performance and outcomes. Collaborates effectively with interdisciplinary teams, patients, and families to establish and achieve short- and long-term care goals. VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package.

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME) Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification) Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided.
