Bloomfield Public School District is accepting applications from qualified candidates for a Middle School Social Studies Teacher (Grades 7 and 8) position at Carmen Arace Middle School.
Work Year: 10-month position - 186 days
Work Day: 7.25 hours per day/ 36.25 hours per week
Hourly Wage: Per BEA Teachers Agreement
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the subject to be taught.
  • Effectively implements instructional plans and uses appropriate instructional techniques.
  • Effectively communicates with students.
  • Provides an opportunity for students to receive out-of-class instruction and/or assistance.
  • Works with the Principal, Supervisor(s), and others, as designated, in evaluating and planning programs for students.
  • Plans a program of study that, to the maximum degree, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Adheres to the established curriculum and guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and other system goals. In harmony with these goals - establishes clear objectives for all lessons.
  • Employs instructional methods, grouping, and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives.
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate for the developmental level and interests of the children.
  • Encourages and maintains the cooperative involvement and support of parents and the community.
  • Participates in curriculum development.
  • Works within the requirements of Board and Administrative policy.
  • Communicates effectively with parents in order to keep them informed regarding their child's progress.
  • Performs all teaching and non-teaching duties that are assigned.
  • Counsels with colleagues, unit or department, pupils, and parents on a regular basis.
  • Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing pupils' educational life and conduct.
  • Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for teacher aides, student teachers, and volunteers, as appropriate, and, cooperatively with the unit leader, department head, or supervisor, evaluates their job performance.
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
  • Exhibits professional and ethical behavior at all times.
  • Other duties and/or responsibilities may be assigned.

Qualifications:
Appropriate CT Grade / Subject Area Certification: Social Studies - (026) or (226)
  • Ability to work within difficult time constraints and under stressful conditions
  • Knowledge of strong, validated, evidenced-based intervention programs
  • A minimum of 3 years of successful teaching experience
  • Well-developed oral, written, and speaking skills
