Job Title: Sterile Processing Technician
Location: Richmond, VA
Type: Contract
Shift & Schedule: 3rd Shift | 11:00 PM – 7:30 AM
Pay Rate:
Local Pay - $28/ Hourly
Travel Pay - $31/ Hourly

Position Overview:

We are seeking a Sterile Processing Technician for an exciting Contract opportunity in Richmond, VA. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the decontamination, inspection, assembly, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments while ensuring compliance with infection control standards and quality assurance protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Decontaminate, inspect, assemble, package, and sterilize surgical instruments and medical equipment following established procedures.

  • Follow ANSI/AAMI standards, manufacturer Instructions for Use (IFUs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and company Work Instructions.

  • Operate washer disinfectors, sterilizers, autoclaves, and other sterile processing equipment safely and effectively.

  • Inspect instruments for cleanliness, functionality, and damage, documenting missing or damaged items as required.

  • Maintain accurate records of sterilization cycles, instrument tracking, and inventory using electronic tracking systems.

  • Perform routine cleaning, maintenance, and quality checks on sterile processing equipment and work areas.

  • Monitor instrument and supply inventory levels to ensure adequate stock availability.

  • Handle surgical instruments and customer-owned equipment with care to prevent damage.

  • Communicate effectively with clinical, operations, and distribution teams to support workflow efficiency.

  • Participate in ongoing training, quality improvement initiatives, and perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Minimum one (1) year of hands-on Sterile Processing experience required.

  • Current Sterile Processing Technician Certification (CRCST, CIS, or equivalent) required.

  • Knowledge of surgical instruments, decontamination procedures, sterilization techniques, and infection control practices.

  • Familiarity with ANSI/AAMI standards and manufacturer Instructions for Use (IFUs).

  • Experience operating washer disinfectors, autoclaves, and other sterile processing equipment.

  • Strong manual dexterity, attention to detail, and organizational skills.

  • Basic computer proficiency and experience with electronic instrument tracking systems.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and function effectively as part of a team.

  • Willingness and ability to complete required vaccinations and health screenings.
