About the Facility – Minneapolis VAMC: The Minneapolis VA Medical Center is one of the VA's four polytrauma medical centers, providing care for active-duty service members and veterans with brain injuries, blindness, amputations, and spinal cord injuries and disorders. In 2018, 1,289 volunteers donated 189,586 hours to help care for veterans, and the center recorded 980,427 outpatient visits. The main campus offers primary care and specialty health services including surgery, psychiatry, neurology, cancer treatment (oncology), dentistry, and more.

Nurse Practitioner Responsibilities
  • Will be responsible and accountable for assessment, diagnosis, and management of patient problems, including prescription of pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions.
  • The scope of practice of a nurse practitioner includes, but is not limited to, each of the following:
    • Advanced practice registered nursing by certified nurse practitioners is based on knowledge and skills acquired throughout an advanced practice registered nurse's nursing education, training, and experience.
    • Advanced nursing patient assessment and diagnosis.
    • Ordering diagnostic and therapeutic tests and procedures, performing those tests and procedures when using health care equipment, and interpreting and using the results of diagnostic and therapeutic tests and procedures ordered by the advanced practice registered nurse or another health care professional.
    • Ordering treatments, ordering, or applying appropriate medical devices, and using nursing, medical, therapeutic, and corrective measures to treat illness and improve health status.
    • Providing palliative and end-of-life care.
    • Providing advanced counseling, patient education, health education, and patient advocacy.
Nurse Practitioner Requirements
  • Must have a Master's degree in nursing.
  • Must have a current and unrestricted license in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia.
  • Must be certified by the AANP.
  • Must have a current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification from a provider recognized by the American Heart Association.
  • Must have a minimum of three years of experience.
