Company Description
The Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA) is a cabinet level state agency dedicated to serving Veterans and their families by assisting them in securing state and federal benefits. MDVA has two major divisions each headed by a Deputy Commissioner who reports to the MDVA Commissioner.
The Veteran's Healthcare Division operates five (5) Veterans Homes located throughout the State and is responsible to provide quality care services for Veterans and qualified spouses. The Homes offer a wide continuum of care, including domiciliary, skilled nursing, rehabilitation, dementia/Alzheimer, and an Adult Day Care program. Each Home is managed by a licensed Nursing Home Administrator.
The MDVA operates on a biennial budget cycle which consists of State general funds, Federal Funds, miscellaneous revenues and donations. The Healthcare Division's biennial budget is $193 million; it employs about 1300 staff working throughout the State.
This position is located at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Hastings.
Job Description
The primary purpose of this job is to utilize advanced nursing skills to assess, promote and educate nursing
staff in the nursing programs defined to give quality care to our residents. To
implement and monitor quality metrics, standards of care, policy and regulatory
compliance and when issues are identified to work with the quality assurance
team on quality improvement activities. To institute and maintain quality data
measurements and goals.
This position generally works Monday through Friday day shift, but must have flexibility to include evenings
and weekends, as needed.
Qualifications
Minimum
Qualifications:
  • Current Minnesota Registered
    Nurse Licensure with no restrictions
  • 2 years RN experience in a
    health care facility
  • Experience in health assessment
    and providing education to nursing staff in quality care and case
    management
  • Experience in developing quality
    metrics and quality improvement initiatives
  • Ability to develop quality
    management and performance improvement plans

    • A high level of problem solving and critical thinking skills

  • Considerable knowledge in the areas of triage, health assessment, treatment
    modalities, medications, management of chronic illness, psychiatric and mental
    health conditions
  • Competent with electronic record keeping and charting
  • Current BLS or CPR certification

Preferred
Qualifications:
  • Experience working with
    Veterans
  • Experience working with vulnerable adults and
    maintaining confidentiality
  • Experience in or with chemical dependency, mental
    illness, and co-occurring disorders
  • Considerable knowledge of infection control and the
    quality assurance performance improvement process in DOMS
    facilities
  • Experience auditing and
    evaluating quality programs and completing pre and post-survey (VA, MDH) for
    regulatory compliance with a
    team
