What is UX strategy?

UX strategy is the process of planning and aligning a company’s user experience efforts with its business goals. It involves researching user needs, analyzing competitor offerings, and designing long-term plans to create products or services that provide meaningful and effective experiences for users. A strong UX strategy helps ensure that every design decision supports both the user’s satisfaction and the organization’s objectives. It typically includes elements like user research, customer journeys, and measurable success metrics.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a UX strategist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a UX Strategist, you need expertise in user research, interaction design, and a solid understanding of business strategy, often supported by a background in design or human-computer interaction. Familiarity with tools like Sketch, Figma, user testing platforms, and analytics software is typically required. Exceptional communication, critical thinking, and collaboration skills help you align user needs with business objectives and work effectively across multidisciplinary teams. These abilities are crucial for creating user-centered solutions that drive both customer satisfaction and organizational success.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in UX strategy roles, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in UX Strategy often encounter challenges such as aligning user experience goals with broader business objectives and managing stakeholder expectations across departments. Navigating these complexities requires strong communication and negotiation skills, as well as the ability to advocate for user-centered solutions while demonstrating their value to the organization. Collaborating closely with product managers, designers, and developers is essential to ensure that the UX vision is integrated throughout the product development lifecycle and that feedback loops are established for continuous improvement.

Job description

Full job description

Location:Denver, CO (Currently in Cherry Creek, soon relocating to Glendale).

This is not a remote position – this is a full-time, in-office position. We do have a need for our researchers in-person to conduct moderated sessions and collaborate with peers.

Role Overview

MeasuringU is a leader in UX research through services, software and training. We are seeking an experienced Lead UX Researcher to operate in a client facingplayer-coachmodel. In this role, you will be the bridge between high-level research strategy and tactical execution. We are looking for a highly active practitioner—a leader who loves getting their hands dirty with data and methodology, while simultaneously empowering a team to execute at a high level.

You will spend roughly50% of your time on strategic research(typically focusing on one or two strategic, repeat client accounts) and50% on team management, client interaction, resource allocation, andquality control.

Key Activities & Responsibilities Strategic Research & Project Management
  • Drive high-impact research that influences our clients’ long-term product roadmaps and digital strategies.
  • Plan, execute, and deliver unmoderated and moderated UX research studies from end-to-end.
  • Be responsible for developing comprehensive project plans that outline discrete tasks, milestones, dates, and dependencies.
  • Track the status of ongoing projects, keeping internal and external collaborators updated on progress and scope alignment.
  • Partner with internal ops/program management to efficiently oversee participant recruitment, lab spaces, and resource allocation.
Client Success & Consultative Scoping
  • Act as a primary strategic point of contact for key clients, defending methodological choices and presenting findings to stakeholders and leadership.
  • Be a pragmatic methods expert who can champion the right approach to answer clients’ research questions.
  • Partner with our proposal team to craft the specific methodology, sample sizes, and execution plans for new client engagements.
  • Oversee the work of junior and mid-level researchers, reviewing research artifacts and deliverables, data analyses, and reports for accuracy and narrative clarity.
  • Proactively identify areas where the team can improve their technical skills or operational efficiency and coach them to that standard.
Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate for this role will be a multifaceted individual:

  • You bring 5+ years of industry experience leading end-to-end UX research projects, demonstrating a strong balance of both quantitative rigor and qualitative depth, with at least 1-2 years spent in a leadership capacity.
  • While mixed-methods is key, a strong quantitative foundation is highly preferred. You should be comfortable designing complex surveys, applying fundamental statistical concepts (e.g., confidence intervals, significance testing, sample size calculations) using tools like SPSS, Excel, or R, and defending statistical conclusions.
  • You have exceptional data visualization and report creation skills. You love working with data and transforming it into compelling, easy-to-digest executive narratives for a variety of audiences and roles.
  • You don’t just report the numbers; you see the "so what." You have a proven ability to connect complex data and qualitative findings directly to key product team needs, translating research into actionable product direction and strategic recommendations.
  • You possess a strong working knowledge of UX and interface design principles to effectively collaborate with product and design teams.
  • You are highly organized and comfortable navigating the fast-paced, context-switching reality of agency life. Prior agency experience is a plus.
  • You find joy in mentoring junior researchers and helping them level up their interviewing and synthesis skills.
  • You have prior experience with unmoderated research platforms (e.g., MUiQ, UserTesting, UserZoom, Dscout, etc.).
Education
  • A Masters or PhD in User Experience, Human-Computer Interaction, Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology, Statistics, or a related field is highly preferred.
  • Competitive salary based on experience level/education with a range of $115,000–$150,000
  • Retirement account with immediately vesting company contribution.
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance.
