What does an UX engineer do?

A UX engineer designs and develops user interfaces to improve user experience by combining skills in design, front-end development, and user research. They often work with tools like HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and design software to create functional, user-friendly digital products. Their role bridges the gap between design and engineering to ensure usability and accessibility.

Is UI/UX still in demand in 2026?

UI/UX design remains in high demand in 2026 as companies prioritize user-centered digital experiences. Skilled UX engineers with proficiency in tools like Figma and knowledge of accessibility standards are sought after across various industries, supporting the ongoing need for intuitive and effective interfaces.

What are UX Engineers?

UX Engineers are professionals who bridge the gap between design and development by translating user experience (UX) designs into functional, interactive digital interfaces. They work closely with designers to understand user needs and with developers to implement solutions, often using front-end technologies like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. UX Engineers ensure that products are not only visually appealing but also intuitive and accessible for users. Their role is crucial in creating seamless user experiences by combining technical skills with a deep understanding of design principles.

Is UX a high paying job?

UX engineers typically earn competitive salaries that vary based on experience, location, and company size. In general, experienced UX professionals with skills in user research, interaction design, and proficiency in tools like Figma or Sketch tend to have higher earning potential compared to entry-level roles.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a UX Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a UX Engineer, you need a strong grasp of user experience principles, front-end development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript), and a relevant degree in design, human-computer interaction, or computer science. Familiarity with design tools like Figma or Sketch, prototyping software, and version control systems such as Git is typically required. Excellent collaboration, problem-solving, and communication skills help you translate complex requirements into user-friendly interfaces. These capabilities are critical for creating intuitive digital products that balance technical feasibility with superior user experiences.

What Does a UX Engineer Do?

The job duties of a UX engineer involve working to design the user experience for websites, software, interactive devices, and a variety of other computer products. In this career, your duties include using computer code and design strategies to build the customer-facing portion of a website or other interactive system. Your responsibilities include working to identify the needs of users and then trying to implement a design strategy that meets those needs. You may also test your user interface and modify to meet the needs of users or the technical specifications of your employer or client.

How does a UX Engineer typically collaborate with designers and developers within a product team?

A UX Engineer acts as a bridge between design and development, working closely with UX/UI designers to translate visual concepts into interactive, functional interfaces. They often participate in design reviews, provide technical feedback, and ensure that user experience goals are met through code. Regular communication with front-end and back-end developers is also crucial to ensure seamless integration of design and functionality. This collaborative approach helps to maintain consistency, usability, and performance across digital products.

Job description

Priority1 strives to go beyond simply offering jobs. We foster careers by creating a great working environment for our team members. We hire talented individuals who will provide the best support and can quickly adapt to the rapidly changing world of logistics. These talented men and women drive our business, and we are committed to their success.

Job Title: Senior UX Engineer

Department: IT

Location: Little Rock, AR

Reports to: Manager of UX Engineering

About the Role:

Priority1 is modernizing the frontend experience across a large logistics platform used by customers and internal teams. We're looking for a senior UX engineer who can build production React applications, contribute heavily to our design system, and raise the quality bar for the frontend work we ship.
You'll work within the UX team, with product owners, and partner with backend teams to turn design into high-quality, scalable product experiences.
What you'll do

  • Build production React and TypeScript single-page applications

  • Contribute to our design system patterns

  • Create reusable components, documentation, and practical usage guidance

  • Review frontend code and model strong implementation habits

  • Partner with backend engineers on API contracts that support the user experience

  • Instrument UI behavior and use product analytics to improve shipped work

  • Help raise the standard for accessibility, responsiveness, performance, and frontend maintainability

  • Other essential functions as needed, as well as regular, reliable in-person attendance

How you'll work

We're looking for someone who can make decisions and move within their scope. You are involved in product discussions, and your job is to bring strong judgment to the implementation and make the final experience better.
We value proactive thinking over reactive execution. That means spotting risks early, identifying gaps before they become blockers, suggesting better patterns, and helping the team avoid avoidable churn.
AI-assisted development is part of how we work. We expect you to be comfortable using tools like Github Copilot or similar tools responsibly in day-to-day development.
What we're looking for

  • 5+ years shipping production React and TypeScript applications

  • Production experience with TanStack Query and TanStack Router, or close equivalents

  • Hands-on experience with shadcn, Tailwind, and BaseUI/Radix-based component patterns

  • Significant experience contributing to a production design system

  • Strong understanding of component architecture, reusable UI patterns, accessibility, responsive design, and frontend maintainability

  • Comfort working in Figma

  • Experience partnering with backend engineers and reviewing frontend code

  • Familiarity with product analytics tools such as PostHog, Amplitude, or Mixpanel

  • Comfort using AI-assisted development tools

  • Bonus points if you've helped modernize legacy applications

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive Base Salary

  • Medical Insurance with premiums paid at 100% for employees AND dependents

  • Dental Insurance 100% paid for Employee

  • Vision Insurance

  • HSA with Employer Contributions

  • Life Insurance

  • Short Term Disability

  • Long Term Disability

  • 401(k) Plan

  • Profit Sharing: Typical annual contribution of 15% of total eligible compensation

  • Paid Holidays AND PTO

  • Cancer, Critical Illness, and Accident Policies available

Join us in creating impactful and intuitive user experiences. If you're passionate about front-end development and UX design, we'd love to hear from you!
