Job Overview
The Senior, User Experience Design shapes the user experience for Macys.com, the Macy's app, and Macy's retail stores, bringing Macy's strategic vision to life through impactful digital designs. With at least 5 years of experience in digital design, this role demands a strong track record of creating elegant, high-quality designs in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. The Senior, User Experience Design balances business objectives with user needs, collaborates across teams, and uses research and data to drive design decisions. In addition to individual contributions, the Senior UX Designer mentors team members, aligning their work with Macy's strategic goals. This position also performs additional duties as assigned.
What You Will Do
  • Design domain experiences that align with business goals and user needs, focusing on key performance indicators (KPIs) and user success metrics.
  • Collaborate with managers, product managers, engineers, and researchers to define, conceptualize, and design user-facing products.
  • Partner with the UX leadership team to establish the domain experience, ensuring deliverables align with the overall user experience design vision.
  • Design consistently across platforms, including web, mobile apps, and in-store environments, to create a cohesive user experience.
  • Approach design problems from start to finish: conceptualize new products and features, design storyboards, workflows, interactions, wireframes, high-fidelity mockups, and establish design standards based on business objectives and user research.
  • Work closely with the domain UX Director and UX Lead to ensure deliverables adhere to the overall design system.
  • Mentor user experience designers on the domain team.
  • Design user experiences that support both business goals and user needs.
  • Create high-fidelity mockups and prototypes and iterate on UI design and interaction flow based on user feedback.
  • Use metrics, optimization, and research-both qualitative and quantitative-to inform and validate design decisions.
  • Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities

Skills You Will Need
User-Centered Design Expertise: Proficiency in designing for mobile apps, responsive web, and in-store digital experiences, with a deep understanding of user-centered design principles and methodologies.
High-Fidelity Design Creation: Ability to produce high-quality mockups, prototypes, and storyboards, and to refine UI design and interaction flows based on user feedback.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Skilled in working with product managers, engineers, and researchers to align on product vision and integrate user needs with business goals.
Data-Driven Decision Making: Proficient in using metrics, qualitative and quantitative research, and optimization techniques to inform and validate design decisions.
Project Management and Organizational Skills: Strong ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines, maintaining a solutions-oriented approach.
Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex design ideas clearly to diverse audiences, including executive leadership.
Business Acumen: Ability to balance user needs with business objectives, focusing on key performance indicators (KPIs) and user success metrics to drive impactful design solutions.
Proficiency in Design Tools: Advanced knowledge of industry-standard design software and tools (e.g., Figma).
Negotiation Skills: Strong negotiation skills to advocate for design solutions and align with business and technical stakeholders.
Adaptability and Problem-Solving: Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, adapt to changing priorities, and approach design problems with creative solutions.
Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with MS Office programs and digital design best practices for seamless integration across web and app platforms.
Who You Are
  • Candidates with a Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in a related field are encouraged to apply. 5+ years of UX/UI design experience across consumer mobile applications, websites, or retail stores.
  • Regularly required to sit, talk, hear; use hands/fingers to touch, handle, and feel. Occasionally required to move about the workplace and reach with hands and arms. Requires close vision.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule based on department and company needs.
