Job description

Spiniello Companies is a privately held, national, full-service utility contractor. Founded in 1922, we are one of the few companies that fully self-performs all aspects of open cut and specialty pipe rehabilitation. Headquarters in New Jersey, we also have office locations in Maryland, Washington D.C., and California.
The Project Engineer will provide support and assistance to the Project Manager and will be responsible for coordinating the activities of a project to ensure cost, schedule, and quality standards are met. This will include all routine on-site project administration, scheduling, and engineering elements. Plans, coordinates, and manages on-site construction engineering activities and schedules and communicates with the team.
Assists in the preparation of monthly pay estimates and updates the Project CPM schedule. Coordinates and updates project budgets, change orders and cost reports for project management review and approval.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the field planning of upcoming projects
  • Help coordinate and manage issues that may develop on site
  • Assist Project Superintendents with the implementation of job site safety procedures, notifications, signage, supplies and equipment
  • Cost coding of various scope items for accounting
  • Assists Project Manager with Contract Buyout with subcontractors and material vendors
  • Work with Project Manager in communicating effectively
  • Draft meeting agendas, meeting minutes for all project meetings attended
  • Work with the Project Manager and Superintendent to prepare, update and provide accurate project progress on a weekly basis.
  • Assist in the supervision of cost report management and assist or lead regular review meetings
  • Identify issues early and work to develop solutions
  • Prepare required information for presentation at project reviews
  • Help problem solve issues and suggest ways to improve the project
  • Ability to read and comprehend Water Main, Sanitary Sewer and Storm Pipeline Drawings
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with contract specifications
  • Carry out job duties and responsibilities while maintaining Spiniello core values
  • Consult with and gather information from inspectors, engineers, subcontractors, etc.
  • Maintain positive client relationships with onsite personnel
  • Ensure project adheres to set schedule and is meeting goals of the client
  • Other duties assigned

Position Requirements and Qualifications
Knowledge of Civil Construction, Earthwork, Excavation, and Utilities construction. Ability to manage time effectively and provide innovation when needed. Willingness to understand corporate and industry practices and standards, processes, and activities.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent Required, BA degree in Construction Management or in Civil Engineering, preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in utility construction
  • Knowledge of water, sanitary waste, and/or storm water collection systems
  • Knowledge of best practices to replace or installation of water/sewer lines.
  • Knowledge of bypass pumping.
  • Familiar with grading, clearing, excavation, drainage, stream restoration, and other civil construction scopes
  • Minimum of 5+ years of construction/project experience. Experience as a Project Coordinator in a similar role is desirable
  • Keen attention to detail and an aptitude for problem solving; ability to proactively address potential issues.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Familiar with HCSS and Sage Timberline a plus.
  • Strong prioritization and organizational skills; detail oriented a must.
