Project Engineer: Transportation Department (Highway)
BRUDIS & ASSOCIATES, INC. (BAI) is a multidiscipline engineering firm providing consulting services to public and private sector clients in the Maryland, District of Columbia and Virginia region. Since 1992, BAI has provided comprehensive, innovative and effective solutions to our clients' transportation and infrastructure needs. BAI is a prime consulting firm with multiple ongoing on-call engineering contracts and projects.
Job SummaryBAI is actively seeking a Project Engineer for immediate employment in our Columbia, MD Office. The project engineer will work under the direction of the project manager and will be the lead designer on projects within the appropriate discipline. The individual shall demonstrate an ability to collaboratively work with a group (or independently) on a wide range of small or large-scale multi-discipline projects for state, county, or local jurisdictions. The job requires analytical thinking, adaptive and independent problem-solving, creativity, innovation, and the ability to utilize design engineers to complete task assignments. Employee shall be dependable, open-minded, focused, and attentive to details including project schedules, budgets, and design quality.
The qualified candidate will be able to demonstrate an ability to work independently on smaller projects or portions of larger projects and have experience in both roadway geometric and roadway drainage design, SWM, ESC, MOT design, and traffic operations. Candidate will have an advanced knowledge of engineering software such as MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, ConceptStation, Power InRoads, and GEOPAK. Responsibilities include developing plans, specifications and estimates for design services along State, and local government roadways involving but not limited to roadway geometry, grading, drainage, stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, parking lots, site improvements, utilities, maintenance of traffic, signing and pavement markings.
Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate the ability to coordinate design elements across various engineering disciplines with other project engineers for the development of plans, specifications, and estimates.
  • Communicate design progress with project managers and utilize entry-level design engineers to complete tasks.
  • Be knowledgeable on the design procedures or practices for the applicable client, as well as, maintain a firm understanding on the permit process for various permit review agencies.
  • Be the lead designer for project development including but not limited to highway, highway drainage, concept design and analysis, horizontal and vertical geometrics, parking lots, site improvements, utilities, maintenance of traffic, signing and pavement markings, ADA, sidewalk design, bicycle facilities, etc.

Knowledge, Skills, And Minimum Requirements
  • BSCE in Civil Engineering or appropriate discipline
  • Four (4) or more years of experience in highway design projects
  • Working knowledge of MicroStation and associated highway design software (Power InRoads, AutoTurn, OpenRoads Designer, ConceptStation)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong computer skills
  • Ability to work well within a project team
  • Ability to travel to project sites
  • Experience with Maryland DOT and Maryland County DPW projects is preferred
  • EIT/FE
  • PE or ability to obtain PE within six months.

Salary Range and Benefits:
