Hours for the role are 6:00 AM- 2:30PM, Tuesday-Saturday, some overtime as assigned
JOB PURPOSE (JOB SUMMARY)
Responsible for overall Plant Utilities. Performs and inspects, performs preventive maintenance and troubleshooting and repair of boilers, pneumatic, ammonia refrigeration and HVAC cooling and heating systems, equipment and machinery. Participates in minor and major utilities construction projects. Assists in developing and maintain required elements in PSM regulatory program.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:
  • Troubleshoot and repair equipment associated with, boilers, pneumatic, and plant utilities systems.
  • Diagnose malfunctions in equipment and work to put preventative measures in place.
  • Pump-out, dismantle, assemble, and install utilities machinery during plant repair, modification, and/or expansion.
  • Follow all safety programs for the Utilities operation and/or maintenance of all associated equipment in area of responsibility.
  • Follow other job-related instructions and perform other job-related duties as requested, subject to all applicable city, state, and federal laws.
  • Suggest and implement changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase operation efficiencies.
  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled preventative, predictive and repair maintenance on assigned systems within area of responsibility.
  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical circuitry malfunctions using visual and auditory senses, test systems and technical publications for area of responsibility.
  • Assist in the compilation, preparation, development and maintenance of and adhere to regulatory documentation specific to ammonia related system operation, condition, repair and installation under the direction of Utilities Supervisor.
  • Operate Utilities systems with the ability to make changes in component sequencing, within normal operating conditions, to ensure proper system/plant operations.
  • Coordinate with supply, production and other engineering personnel activities to improve procedures and resolve problems.
  • Demonstrate excellent organizational skills and the ability to effectively prioritize work across multiple tasks with or without direct supervision.
  • Document all operation and maintenance tasks via paper logs and/or electronic CMMS systems (Eptura).
  • Maintain professional and courteous manner at all times.
  • Work safely and follow all safety rules, regulations and laws.
  • Send the passdown notes via Teams.
  • Attend the calls and provide support the operations team.

Qualifications and Experience:
  • Minimum education required: high school diploma or equivalent, with technical/trade school refrigeration preferred. RETA certification a plus.
  • Current City of Omaha Third Grade Boilers license or the ability to get one within one (1) year.
  • Must be able to read and understand electrical diagrams, blueprints, drawings, P&ID's and technical service manuals.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in the troubleshooting and repair for boilers, air compressors and supporting systems with or without direct supervision.
  • HVAC experience with current EPA certification for Freon is a plus.
  • Must be proficient in using computer programs such as word, excel and CMMS systems.
  • Must be able to pass medical screening, pulmonary function testing and respirator fit testing.
  • Must be able to work in extreme conditions for long periods of time. This includes heat, cold, rain, snow, limited movement areas, heights, etc.
  • Must be able to work overtime scheduled by the Department Manager.
