Duties and Responsibilitiesย (
Advanced,ย additionalย duties will exist for the Level IIย and Level IIIย positions):ย ย
Essentialย ย - Identifyingย and marking buried fiber, water, sewer,ย reuseย and storm water infrastructures by referencing utility prints and using specialized locating equipment.ย
- Operates andย maintainsย specialized equipment and tools used toย locateย underground utilities.ย
- Reads, understands, and interprets utility maps, engineering design plans, prints, and aerial imagery toย assistย in identification of Town owned underground utility assets.ย
- Prioritizes work activities by reviewing allย locateย requests toย determineย travel routes and timelines. Conducts field meetings with contractors or customers and other representatives from outside agencies andย identifiesย the location of each utility line.ย ย ย
- Operates handheld detection equipment in the designed manner.ย ย Marks the location of underground utility assets on roadways, private property, and other ground surface locations, asย appropriateย and needed, using required spray paints, flags, or other marking devices.ย ย
- Maintains and updates records and construction drawings to mark utility lines within accuracy requirements of State laws.ย ย ย ย
- Conducts field meetings with contractors or customers and other representatives from outside agencies andย identifiesย the location of each utility line.ย ย ย
- Responsible for managing, inspecting, andย maintainingย permanent marking posts for all Town owned underground utilitiesย locatedย outside of roadways.ย
- Operates a computer, including a tablet, and a portable or handheld GPS unit.ย ย
- Ensures that problems are corrected inย a timelyย and effective manner.ย ย
- Must be flexible to work in all types of terrain and weather conditions, able to succeed under stressful situations andย conduct him or herself in a professional manner at all times.ย ย
- Performs snow removal activities either by hand, small equipment or heavy equipment as assigned.ย ย
Administrative and Customer Serviceย - Completes all proper documentation for each utilityย locateย ticket.ย ย ย Actively keeps current with new utility locating equipment, GIS and mapping systems, and GPSย locatingย technology.ย ย ย ย
- Updates staff of any discrepancies found in the field during utilityย locatesย in reference to updating the Town of Erie Utility GIS mapping.ย
- Performs data entry of information, maintenance logs and other data in spreadsheets and related software.ย ย
- Responds to customers andย contractorsย inquiries and complaints.ย ย
- Prepares necessary records and reports.ย ย
Safetyย - Performs a variety of duties that requires considerable knowledge of the use and wear of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).ย
- Performs routine safety checks of equipment and minor maintenance activities on vehicles and equipment andย maintainsย records of activities.ย ย
- Maintains a safe working environment to include working in traffic and congested areas, working in ditches and confined spaces and all work environments.ย ย
- Assistsย in the cleaning and organization of shop area.ย ย
Operations & Maintenance Supportย - Assisting Meters with reading and maintenance, service orders, conducting turn-offs and turn-ons of residential and commercial water services.ย
- Assisting Streets with maintenance of roadways and signage.ย
- Assisting Distribution, Collections, Storm Operations tasks to include maintenance and inspection of sanitary sewer,ย manhole, lift stations, CCTV, water, sewer and storm lines, hydrants, valve, and PRVs.ย
- Assistingย in Town events preparation, operation and break down.ย
