Experienced Full-Time Utility Line Locator
Job Summary
We are seeking a reliable, detail-oriented Utility Line Locator to join our team. The primary purpose of this role is to accurately identify, locate, and mark underground utility lines in the City of McPherson, KS (including electric, water, and sewer) in accordance with KS 811. This crucial role prevents damage to infrastructure, protects the public, and ensures the safety of construction crews. The ideal candidate enjoys working outdoors independently, thrives on technical problem-solving, and is committed to safety.
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid State Driver's License with an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions (rain, heat, cold).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and pre-employment drug screen.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to walk 3-5 miles per day on uneven terrain.
  • Ability to lift up to 50-75 pounds.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, and operate in confined spaces.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in utility locating.
  • Use a laptop computer to receive, document, and process tickets and email.
  • Read maps, interpret blueprints, and determine the best method & sequence for locating.
