Utility Billing Analyst information

What does a utility billing analyst do?

A Utility Billing Analyst is responsible for managing and analyzing utility billing processes for organizations or municipalities. Their duties include reviewing customer accounts, ensuring accurate meter readings, resolving discrepancies, and generating invoices for water, gas, electricity, or other utility services. They also work to identify billing errors, improve billing efficiency, and provide customer support regarding billing inquiries. In addition, they often collaborate with accounting, customer service, and IT departments to streamline billing operations and ensure regulatory compliance.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a utility billing analyst?

To thrive as a Utility Billing Analyst, you need strong analytical abilities, attention to detail, and a background in accounting, finance, or a related field, often supported by a bachelor's degree. Familiarity with utility billing software, spreadsheets (like Microsoft Excel), and databases, as well as knowledge of relevant regulations, is typically required. Excellent problem-solving skills, effective communication, and customer service orientation are important soft skills for resolving billing issues and interacting with clients. These competencies ensure accurate billing, regulatory compliance, and high customer satisfaction in utility services.

  • A fun, high-energy team culture with regular social events

Compensation: $85,000–$91,000/yr base, depending on experience
