Job description

The Opportunity:

Tetra Tech is adding an experienced Engineer/ Project Manager to support energy transition projects throughout Upstate New York and the Northeast region. The successful candidate will have extensive experience managing and delivering complex civil engineering projects with a focus on electric transmission, renewable energy, battery energy storage systems (BESS), stormwater management, and site development.

This position offers the opportunity to support some of the region's most significant energy infrastructure projects while working closely with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and regulatory agencies.

 

Location: Albany, Syracuse, or Rochester, NY

Essential Job Functions:

Project Management & Leadership

  • Serve as Project Manager for complex engineering projects, ensuring successful delivery on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with client objectives and quality standards
  • Work closely with Operations Managers, Energy Initiative Leads, and Business Unit Leaders to deliver safe, profitable, and sustainable projects
  • Lead multidisciplinary project teams and coordinate project execution from planning through construction

Engineering & Technical Responsibilities

  • Lead civil engineering design for:
    • Electric transmission projects
    • Renewable energy projects
    • Battery energy storage systems (BESS)
    • Other energy-related infrastructure projects
  • Support projects from pre-construction through Issued for Permit (IFP) and Issued for Construction (IFC) phases
  • Develop and review:
    • Stormwater Management Plans (SWMPs)
    • Erosion and Sediment Control Plans (E&SCPs)
    • Grading and drainage designs
    • Civil site development plans
  • Provide construction oversight and compliance support

Permitting & Regulatory Coordination

  • Lead federal, state, and local permitting efforts for complex energy projects
  • Coordinate with regulatory agencies, utility clients, and project stakeholders
  • Ensure compliance with applicable safety standards, regulations, permitting requirements, and industry best practices
  • Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
  • Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
  • Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
  • Additional duties as required.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in:
    • Civil Engineering, or
    • Environmental Engineering
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in New York and/or New England states
  • 10-15 years of professional engineering experience
  • Strong project management and leadership experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with:
    • AutoCAD Civil 3D
    • Bluebeam
    • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Experience managing multiple projects and client relationships
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Significant experience supporting:
    • Electric transmission projects
    • Utility site development projects
    • New York and/or New England energy markets
  • Experience working with State Siting Boards and utility permitting processes
  • Experience supporting:
    • Solar energy projects
    • Battery energy storage systems (BESS)
    • Construction oversight and compliance programs
  • Proficiency with:
    • MicroStation
    • ProjectWise
  • Experience with:
    • Environmental due diligence
    • Environmental investigation and remediation
    • Electrical infrastructure development

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform field visits, construction oversight, and site inspections
  • Ability to travel throughout New York and New England as required
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and site conditions

Work Environment / Travel:

  • Hybrid office and field-based environment
  • Reporting office located in Albany, Syracuse, or Rochester based on candidate location
  • Frequent interaction with clients, utilities, regulatory agencies, contractors, and multidisciplinary project teams
  • Travel throughout New York, New England, and surrounding regions as needed

Compensation:

Pay commensurate with experience.

Pay Range: $95,000-$125,000 annually
