Key Responsibilities
Key responsibilities and day to day responsibilities of this position:
  • Compounds, mixes and prepares medicines and preparations according to prescriptions written by authorized medical practitioners.
  • Provides information concerning medications to physicians, patients, nurses and other staff.
  • Orders and maintains inventory of drugs, chemicals, or other controlled substances and ensures their security.
  • Analyzes utilization trends to design, implement or reform Medicaid policy.
  • Prepares reports outlining medicinal and drug usage patterns.
  • Acts as a resource to team members, participates in team and professional meetings and gives input as to needs of clients.
  • Fills and re-fills prescriptions.
  • Reviews prescriptions to assure accuracy, to ascertain the needed ingredients, and to evaluate their suitability.
  • Provides information and advice regarding drug interactions, side effects, dosage, and proper medication storage.
  • Maintains records, such as pharmacy files, patient profiles, charge system files, and inventories.
  • Plans, implement, or maintain procedures for mixing, packaging, or labeling pharmaceuticals, according to policy and legal requirements, to ensure quality, security, and proper disposal.
  • Assesses the identity strength, or purity of medications.
