Job description

The Nutrition Services Division's mission is to support and protect access to nutritious meals for children in California in preschool through grade twelve. Under the supervision of the Automotive Equipment Operator II at the State Distribution Center in Pomona, the Heavy Truck Driver (HTD) is responsible for the operation of a two or three-axle truck tractor and pulling a 28- to 48-foot dry or refrigerated trailer. The HTD delivers U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Foods and Department of Defense Fresh Fruit and Vegetables (DoD Fresh) to recipient agencies located in 12 Southern California counties. The HTD loads the USDA Foods and DoD Fresh ensuring that the load is balanced in the trailer and verifies the products and destination against the bill of lading prior to departure. The HTD is also responsible for contacting each location at minimum 48 hours prior to expected delivery, performing minor vehicle repairs and regular service maintenance to ensure the equipment is road worthy, keeping truck records, and preparing reports.
Occasional overnight travel and regular overtime are required. The HTD must meet Department of Motor Vehicle's requirements and is responsible for maintaining a class "A" commercial driver's license.
Position designated as safety sensitive and is subject to reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol testing.

This position is subject to PLP 2025 and will have a monthly base pay reduction of 3% in exchange for 5 hours of leave credits through June 2027.
