Job description
Iron Oak Energy is looking for a dynamic Safety & Health Coordinator who will have a positive impact on the Operations team at its Wedron Silica location in Wedron, IL. As a Safety & Health Coordinator, you will administer, monitor and ensure compliance of the Company's Safety and Health program, in a manner consistent with Corporate and governmental standards, codes, acts, regulations and policies for all employees (including vendors and contractors) at the Wedron site.
The successful incumbent will have the following Key Accountabilities:
- Adhere to, comply with and manage all safety rules and regulations within Iron Oak, MSHA, OSHA and other site specific requirements.
- Develop, facilitate, implement, train and manage the sites entire health and safety system which will meet or exceed all aforementioned regulatory requirements.
- Immediately stop any person onsite who is seen performing an unsafe act with the intention of coaching them for improvement.
- Inspect the plant monthly and submit a written report to the sites leadership.
- Develop and maintain a regular area inspection program and Behavior Based Safety (BBS) observation system that involves all employees at the plant.
- Track and report plant safety KPI's.
- Maintain and direct an active safety training program, including MSHA Training and Monthly Safety Meetings.
- Maintain and update monthly a prioritized list of safety items requiring attention from data gathered from plant inspections, safety meetings, shift reports, and MSHA inspections.
- Schedule and conduct monthly Safety Team inspections,
- Schedule and coordinate annual audiograms, physicals for all site employees and any subsequent follow-up.
- Accompany all Health & Safety inspectors during onsite inspections.
- Coordinate and assist in scheduling Supervisor First-Aid, CPR, and AED training, when required.
- Perform and monitor respirable dust surveys for all employees and work areas.
- Perform and monitor noise exposure surveys for all employees and work areas.
- Direct the plants' Hearing Conservation Programs.
- Investigate and prepare reports of accidents/injuries that occur on plant property, including employee personal injury, property damage, and near-miss accidents.
- Monitor and restock supplies in plant first-aid centers.
- Maintain and distribute personal protective equipment used in the plant, including respirators, hearing protection, hard hats, safety glasses, and fall protection.
- Monitor the fire extinguisher program to ensure appropriate and adequate equipment is installed and maintained in work areas and mobile equipment.
- Maintain required reporting schedule of Safety & Health data in USIS.
- Prepare and submit the MSHA quarterly report.
- Prepare and submit (in the time frame allowed - 10 days) the MSHA Form 7000-1 (Accident, Injury, and Illness Report) when a reportable accident occurs.
- Prepare maintain a record of all employee safety training including MSHA Form 5000-23 (Certificate of Training).
- Prepare and maintain all records and data connected with Worker's Compensation issues and communicate as required with insurance carriers, governmental agencies, and Iron Oak management.
- Develop and maintain communications with local medical facilities/clinics regarding restricted duty work programs available to employees injured on the job.
- Maintain communications with the Corporate Safety & Health Department.
- Maintain current working knowledge of all applicable OSHA, MSHA and Iron Oak safety and health policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Make all arrangements for drug testing pursuant to company policy. Provide transportation for any persons deemed unfit to operate a motor vehicle.
- Administer the safety boot and eyeglass program as per plant policy.
- Recommend changes in plant procedures or policy as needed to improve the health and safety of all employees.
- Act as secretary, facilitator and salaried representative of the plant safety committee and schedule regular meetings.
- Act as a contributing member of the Regional Safety and Health Team.
- Act as a back-up on environmental monitoring and compliance to the QC/ Environmental Supervisor.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
The successful incumbent will have the following Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree preferred but is not required
- If no college degree is present then incumbent must have a minimum of five (5) years' relevant supervisory experience in health and safety specifically at a mining or heavy construction facility
- MSHA Part 46 or 48 Training Certification and/or previous exposure to surface and dredge mining with aggregates in a plant environment a plus
- Proficient in Word, Excel and knowledge of ERP databases.
- Strong experience in industrial/mining safety and health programs
- Must be able to wear a respirator and other required personal protective equipment
- Must have and maintain a valid driver's license
