Job description

The Student Learning Services program is designed to support the academic and learning development of all student-athletes at the University of South Florida. Our goal is to equip students with the academic skills and learning strategies they need to excel in their classes and throughout their academic career at USF. With the goal of graduating our students in mind, we want students to develop the skills necessary to become autonomous and self-sufficient learners and masters of their individual academic and lifelong learning pursuits.

The role of a tutor within athletics at the University of South Florida is to enhance the knowledge and learning independence of our student-athletes through in-depth review of subject matter, development of study skills and strategies, and modeling of ideal student behavior and habits. The skill building focus of tutors will include the five BullsLearn Academic Skills: Reading, Writing, Time-Management/Organization, Note-Taking, and Study/Test-Taking skills. Tutor sessions will emphasize the development of study skills and course-specific learning strategies to encourage students to gain mastery of course content.

Job Pay & Requirements

  • $14/hr
  • Over 3.25 GPA
  • Must have B+ minimum in courses tutored
  • Minimum 5 hours per week *session hours cannot be guaranteed
  • Current USF Student
  • Minimum of two full-time semesters at USF
  • Resume required
  • Copy of Unofficial USF transcripts required 

Tutors will be required to complete a beginning of the semester training and mid semester check-in training. Sessions will be at least an hour long and scheduled according to tutor group availability. Additionally, they may evaluated at varying points within the academic semester.
