What is a user testing?

A User Testing job involves evaluating websites, apps, or products by providing feedback on usability, functionality, and overall user experience. Testers follow specific tasks, share their thoughts, and report any issues they encounter. Companies use this feedback to improve their products before launch. Typically, no specialized skills are required, but clear communication and attention to detail are essential. Many user testers work as freelancers or participate in tests on a per-project basis.

What does a typical day look like for someone in a user testing role?

On a typical day, someone working in User Testing may participate in scheduled testing sessions, where they evaluate software, apps, or websites while documenting their observations and usability issues. You might interact with real users, observe their behaviors, and then compile findings into clear, actionable reports for design and development teams. Collaboration is common, as user testers often work closely with product managers, designers, and developers to communicate challenges and recommend improvements. The work can be project-based or ongoing, depending on the organization and the product lifecycle. Regularly encountering new products and interfaces offers variety and opportunities to continually develop your testing and UX knowledge.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the user testing position, and why are they important?

To thrive in User Testing, you need strong observational skills, attention to detail, and a basic understanding of usability principles or user experience (UX) concepts. Familiarity with popular user testing tools such as UserTesting.com, Lookback, or usability testing suites is often required; some roles value certifications in usability or UX research. Excellent communication, open-mindedness, and the ability to provide constructive feedback are valuable soft skills in this position. These capabilities help ensure that digital products are user-friendly, effective, and continuously improved based on real user insights.

Does User Testing actually pay you?

User Testing is a platform where individuals can earn money by providing feedback on websites and apps. Payments are typically made via PayPal after completing tests, and earnings depend on the number and complexity of tests completed. The platform is legitimate and pays users for their participation, often requiring basic computer skills and a reliable internet connection.

How do you become a user testing?

To become a user tester, you typically need to sign up with testing platforms or companies that conduct usability testing, complete profile assessments, and sometimes pass initial qualification tests. Having good communication skills, attention to detail, and familiarity with digital products can improve your chances of being selected for testing opportunities.

Job description

Job Description

At Myra, we develop and operate a certifiedSecurity-as-a-Service platform designed to protect digital business processes. Our technology monitors, analyses, and filters malicious internet traffic before cyberattacks can cause actual damage. The UX/UI Designer (m/f/d) at Myra is not a typical design role. While product teams across the organisation build and ship features, you own the design system that underpins all of them. You are the closest person in the product organisation to how the platform actually looks, feels, and functions - and your job is to make sure that standard is excellent. In an AI-native environment where AI generates screens, components, and layouts at speed, you provide what AI cannot: taste, judgment, and the system-level thinking that makes the entire Myra platform feel like one coherent product.

Your Responsibilities
  • Own and govern the Myra design system- serving as the single source of truth for components, tokens, interaction patterns, spacing, typography, and visual language across all products.
  • Review, refine, and approve AI-generated UI across all product teams, maintaining prompting standards and design briefs that produce better AI output from the start.
  • Commission, conduct, and synthesise UX research proactively - including usability testing, user interviews, session reviews, and heuristic evaluations - and translate findings into actionable design decisions.
  • Ensure cross-product design consistency- overseeing navigation patterns, interaction models, terminology, error states, and empty states across the entire platform.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers to ensure implementation matches design intent, and create precise handoff assets that enable correct implementation without constant designer involvement.
  • Participate in product team planningto review upcoming features for design implications before they reach development.
Your Qualifications
  • Design systems ownership - must have owned (not merely contributed to) a design system, with expertise in token architecture, component composition, documentation standards, and governance.
  • Genuine AI design tooling fluency - actively uses AI design tools as a core part of daily workflow, with a clear methodology for integrating AI and the judgment to identify where it falls short.
  • B2B product design experience for technical audiences - proven experience designing for developers, engineers, administrators, or security professionals, with understanding of precision and density in interfaces.
  • UX research proficiency - ability to independently design and run usability studies, conduct user interviews, analyse session recordings, and synthesise qualitative and quantitative data into design decisions.
  • Advanced Figma expertise - fluent in component architecture, auto-layout, variables, and prototyping, with files structured for use by engineers and other designers without guidance.
  • Strong interaction design craft- designs interactions that are behaviourally sound, with the right affordances, feedback loops, error states, and empty states, and the ability to articulate precisely what needs to change and why.
