Does UserTesting actually pay?

UserTesting pays users for completing website and app testing tasks, typically offering between $10 and $60 per test, depending on the complexity and length. Payments are made via PayPal after completing tests and meeting the platform's requirements, making it a legitimate way to earn money through remote testing work.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a User Testing (Usability Tester), and why are they important?

To thrive as a Usability Tester, you need keen observational skills, attention to detail, and an understanding of user experience principles, often supported by a background in UX, HCI, or related fields. Familiarity with usability testing platforms (such as UserTesting or UserZoom), recording software, and basic analytics tools is typically required. Strong communication skills, the ability to provide clear feedback, and adaptability help testers articulate insights and respond to diverse testing scenarios. These abilities ensure actionable feedback for product teams, contributing to improved user experiences and successful product development.

How much does UserTesting pay per hour?

UserTesting pays testers typically between $10 and $20 per completed test, which usually takes about 15 to 20 minutes. While the pay per hour can vary based on the number of tests completed, it generally ranges from $15 to $30 per hour for active testers. Payment is made via PayPal after completing each test and meeting the platform's requirements.

What is user testing pay and how much can I earn from it?

User testing pay refers to the compensation individuals receive for participating in usability tests of websites, apps, or digital products. Payment is usually made via PayPal or direct deposit after the test is completed and approved.

How much can you get paid doing UserTesting?

How do I become a user tester?

At Ott, a Veralto company, you'll help deliver trusted, connected water intelligence that enables customers to understand, manage, and protect dynamic water resources. The business supports environmental water monitoring across rivers, groundwater, surface water, water quality, flow, and connected data applications.
We offer:

Reporting to the Director of Software Development & User Experience, the Sr User Experience Designer will help create intuitive, engaging, and highly usable experiences across a wide range of water instrumentation-related products - both physical and digital. This role is part of the Research & Development team located in Fort Collins, Colorado.
This is a great opportunity for a UX professional who wants to design beyond the screen: you'll work on products that support real-world environmental monitoring, collaborate closely with software engineering, mechanical engineering, product management, and marketing, and help shape how customers interact with tools that generate critical water insights.
In this role, a typical day will look like:
  • Own and execute UX design from concept through implementation, translating user requirements into usable, thoughtful applications.
  • Create wireframes, mock-ups, storyboards, design specifications, and interactive prototypes that help stakeholders clearly understand the intended user experience.
  • Partner closely with engineering and product management to ensure designs are practical, scalable, and accurately implemented.
  • Conduct user research and usability testing to identify pain points, validate solutions, and improve the customer experience.
  • Support onsite discovery and design workshops to better understand user problems and translate insights into clear design direction.
  • Analyze digital experiences across web and mobile platforms to identify opportunities for consistency, growth, and usability improvements.
  • Help maintain and evolve the internal design system, ensuring a consistent experience across applications, devices, and product touchpoints.

The essential requirements of the job include:
  • Bachelor's degree in User Experience Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Visual Design, or a related field, with 3+ years of related UX experience.
  • Experience creating usable and visually strong designs, including wireframes, prototypes, workflows, and interaction design deliverables.
  • Experience conducting user research and usability testing for desktop, web, and mobile interfaces.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with product managers, engineers, and cross-functional stakeholders from concept through implementation.
  • Excellent written, verbal, visual communication, presentation, moderation, and user interview skills.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% for end-user testing and research.
  • Legal eligibility to work in the United States.

It would be a plus if you also have:
  • Experience with industrial design, mechanical design, or physical product usability.
  • Experience assessing usability for physical products, devices, or instrumentation.
  • Solid understanding of responsive web design.
  • Mobile app design experience for iOS and/or Android.
  • Proficiency with Figma and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Experience working in an Agile development environment.
