What is a user generated content creator?

A User Generated Content (UGC) Creator is someone who produces original content—such as videos, photos, reviews, or social media posts—about a brand, product, or service, typically as a consumer rather than a traditional influencer. UGC Creators are often hired by companies to make authentic, relatable content that resonates with their target audience. Unlike influencers, UGC Creators focus on storytelling and real-life experiences rather than growing a large personal following. Their content is used by brands in marketing campaigns to build trust and increase engagement. UGC is highly valued because it appears more genuine and trustworthy to potential customers.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a user generated content creator?

To thrive as a User Generated Content Creator, you need strong storytelling abilities, creativity, and a solid understanding of digital platforms, typically supported by experience in content creation or digital marketing. Familiarity with video and photo editing tools (such as Adobe Creative Suite or Canva) and knowledge of major social media platforms are essential. Excellent communication, adaptability, and audience engagement skills help creators stand out in a competitive landscape. These skills are crucial for producing authentic, high-quality content that resonates with audiences and drives engagement for brands or communities.

How do user generated content creators typically collaborate with marketing and product teams?

User Generated Content Creators often work closely with marketing and product teams to align their content with brand goals and messaging. They may participate in brainstorming sessions, receive briefs outlining campaign objectives, and provide feedback on what resonates with audiences. Regular communication ensures that their content supports product launches, promotions, and community engagement strategies. This collaborative structure helps creators stay informed about upcoming initiatives and produce relevant, impactful content.

B2B Content Writer

Codal

Chicago, IL • On-site

Full-time

Posted 18 days ago

Job description

An Introduction to Codal

Codal is an award-winning web design and development consultancy that helps enterprise organizations solve complex problems and accelerate growth through elegant, data-driven digital solutions. Our areas of expertise include application modernization, eCommerce, UX/UI design, product strategy, data analytics, and artificial intelligence.

At Codal, you will collaborate with some of the most innovative organizations in the world and work on cutting-edge technologies that push the boundaries of design and software development. We promote long-term success, not just for our clients but for our team, helping you develop a professional roadmap that takes your career to new heights.

We're looking for a driven, enterprise-calibre B2B Content Writer to own the voice of Codal across digital and editorial channels. You will be a cornerstone of our content engine shaping how Codal communicates its expertise in complex, regulated industries to sophisticated enterprise buyers.

This is not a role for someone who relies on AI to write. We want a writer who thinks deeply, crafts precisely, and produces content that earns trust with technical and executive audiences alike. You'll work closely with our Global Head of Marketing, Senior Content Strategist and internal subject-matter experts to develop a content strategy grounded in genuine expertise and clear market positioning.

***Please note this role is open to Chicagoland residents and is not eligible for Visa sponsorship.

What you'll own

Website and digital content (including social media)

  • Write and own key industry pages and solutions pages across the Codal website
  • Develop copy that clearly articulates Codal's point of difference in a competitive market
  • Write social media content for our platforms which is mainly LinkedIN
  • Work with the Global Head of Marketing and Senior Content Strategist to ensure website content reflects our positioning and service lines

Thought leadership and editorial

  • Produce authoritative blog articles in collaboration with internal SMEs across engineering, design and strategy
  • Write and distribute press releases that reinforce Codal's market position and announcements
  • Develop and execute a content strategy alongside the Global Head of Marketing, contributing ideas, flagging what's resonating, and shaping the editorial calendar

Case studies

  • Lead end-to-end case study production from stakeholder brief and client interview through to published asset
  • Design and implement a scalable case study process to accelerate output and reduce time from project completion to publication
  • Work cross-functionally with delivery, sales and design to source stories, gather approvals and get case studies out faster

Brand and positioning

  • Communicate Codal's point of difference clearly and consistently across all content formats
  • Maintain a consistent enterprise tone of voice across all channels and asset types
  • Contribute to how the team plans and prioritises content, not just what gets executed

Data and performance

  • Track and report on content performance across key channels: organic traffic, engagement, lead attribution and pipeline influence
  • Use data to inform content decisions: identify what's working, what isn't, and where to focus effort
  • Set measurable goals for content initiatives and report results in terms of business impact, not just pageviews
  • Work with the marketing team to connect content activity to CRM data and pipeline outcomes in HubSpot and Salesforce
What we're looking for
  • 3-5 years of B2B or enterprise content writing experience, ideally in digital services, technology, agency or consultancy
  • Proven background writing for regulated industries: healthcare, financial services, compliance, or similar
  • A portfolio that demonstrates range: long-form editorial, web copy, case studies, press releases, thought leadership, and social media.
  • Exceptional command of the English language: grammar, structure and nuance, with a strong editorial instinct
  • Experience interviewing SMEs and distilling complex technical ideas into compelling, accessible narratives
  • Strong project management instincts: able to manage multiple workstreams without dropping the ball
  • Comfortable owning processes, not just executing tasks, you'll build systems as well as write content
  • High standards, high output, and the drive to do both at once

What we're not looking for:

We will not consider candidates who rely on AI-generated drafts as a substitute for original writing. We expect every piece of content to reflect genuine craft, strategic thinking and a thorough understanding of the audience. If your process starts with a prompt box, this role is not for you.

How this role will be measured
  • Quality and consistency of content across website, editorial and campaign assets
  • Volume and velocity of case study output, and improvement in time-to-publish
  • Contribution to content strategy and editorial planning
  • Engagement and performance of content across key channels

We continually review ranges to address skills, experience and markets. Base salaries are determined during our interview process, by assessing a number of factors that include but aren't limited to, a candidate's experience and skills relative to the scope and responsibilities of the position

Pay range
$65,000—$85,000 USD

Note: Codal only communicates with candidates through official @codal.com email addresses. We never request payment during the hiring process. Please be vigilant regarding recruitment scams.

At Codal, we are committed to equal employment opportunities regardless of race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, marital status, disability, gender, gender identity or expression, or veteran status. We are proud to be an equal opportunity workplace.
