Job description

AutoZone's Sr. Experience (UI/UX) Designer scales and unifies digital products by building reusable component libraries, design tokens, and clear documentation. They bridge the gap between design and code, partnering with engineering to ensure fast, accessible, and consistent user experiences across platforms.
The Sr. Design System Designer will lead the evolution and scaling of our enterprise design system. In this role, you will be the driving force behind modernizing our component libraries, ensuring seamless integration between design and engineering, and empowering both internal and external teams to build faster and more consistently. You will play a critical role in unifying our user experiences across our B2B, B2C, in-store applications, and mobile apps.
Responsibilities
  • System Modernization & Architecture: Lead the update of our existing design system leveraging Figma's latest features. Build and manage a comprehensive architecture of design tokens and variables to enable designers to work faster and more efficiently across diverse platforms (B2B, B2C, in-store, and mobile apps).
  • Figma AI & Tooling Advocacy: Experience utilizing Figma's native AI features and broader AI-driven design workflows. Ability to leverage AI to automate repetitive tasks (e.g., content generation, component variations, and layer management) to scale the design system faster and increase operational efficiency.
  • Engineering Alignment: Partner closely with front-end developers to ensure complete alignment between Figma design tokens/components and our React codebase. Bridge the gap between design and engineering to guarantee pixel-perfect, accessible, and scalable implementation.
  • Documentation & Governance: Create, maintain, and publish robust design system documentation. Ensure guidelines are clear, accessible, and actionable for both internal cross-functional teams and external partners.
  • Vendor Collaboration & Review: Act as the primary design system point of contact for external vendors and agency partners. Onboard them to our system, provide ongoing support, and rigorously review their design output to ensure strict adherence to our brand and system standards.
  • Advocacy & Tooling: Champion the adoption of the design system across the organization. Continuously research and integrate new design tooling and workflows to optimize the product design lifecycle.
  • Accessibility & ADA Compliance: Ensure all design system components, patterns, and documentation strictly adhere to WCAG standards and ADA compliance. Champion inclusive design practices and embed accessibility into the foundation of our UI components from day one.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in Design, Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field
  • 5+ years of Product/UX/UI design experience, with at least 2+ years exclusively dedicated to building and managing enterprise-level design systems
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating relevant examples of UI and UX successes, particularly within design systems
  • Deep understanding and hands-on experience building designs for responsive web and mobile environments.
  • Experience with Sketch, Figma, Zeplin, or Adobe CC. Optional experience with Validately, UserZoom, and Adobe Analytics
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with diverse teams, including Product Owners, Business Stakeholders, SEO, Analytics, and Front-End Development
  • Experience: 5+ years of Product/UX/UI design experience, with at least 2+ years exclusively dedicated to building and managing enterprise-level design systems.
  • Figma Mastery: Expert-level proficiency in Figma, including advanced component architecture, variants, auto-layout, design tokens, and Figma variables.
  • Technical Acumen: Strong understanding of component-driven development and web technologies. Experience aligning design systems with a React codebase is highly preferred.
  • Multi-Platform Expertise: Proven track record of designing scalable systems that adapt to multiple contexts (e-commerce, internal tools, mobile, and responsive web).
  • Communication & Mentorship: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to write clear documentation, articulate design decisions, and provide constructive feedback to vendors and peers.
