What is user experience testing?

User experience (UX) testing is the process of evaluating a product, such as a website or app, by observing how real users interact with it. The goal is to identify any usability issues, gather feedback, and improve the overall experience for users. UX testing can involve methods like usability tests, A/B testing, and surveys to understand how intuitive and enjoyable the product is. By regularly conducting UX testing, companies can create products that are easier to use and more satisfying for their target audience.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a User Experience (UX) Tester, and why are they important?

To thrive as a User Experience (UX) Tester, you need a solid understanding of usability principles, research methodologies, and experience with user testing processes, often supported by a degree in human-computer interaction, psychology, or a related field. Familiarity with prototyping tools (like Figma or Sketch), analytics platforms (such as Google Analytics), and usability testing software (like UserTesting or Lookback) is typically required. Excellent observational skills, empathy, clear communication, and attention to detail help UX testers accurately interpret user feedback and convey actionable insights. These skills ensure that digital products are intuitive, user-centered, and meet both business and customer needs.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in User Experience Testing, and how can they be addressed?

One common challenge in User Experience (UX) Testing is ensuring that test participants accurately represent the target user base, which can impact the validity of findings. Another challenge is balancing stakeholder expectations with user feedback, especially when business goals and user needs differ. Additionally, coordinating with designers, product managers, and developers to implement necessary changes based on test results can be complex. Building strong communication skills, advocating for the user perspective, and maintaining well-documented testing processes can help address these challenges.

What is the difference between User Experience Testing vs User Interface Design?

The Challenge

With the continued expansion and maturity of OneTrust's products, UX team, and AI-ready governance platform, we're looking to hire a Senior UX Researcher who will help deepen our understanding of customer needs and shape better product experiences across complex enterprise workflows.

This role is a senior individual contributor position focused on planning, leading, and delivering high-impact research that informs product strategy, design direction, and prioritization. You will partner closely with Product, Design, Engineering, and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure decisions are grounded in evidence, user needs, and business context. You will also help elevate research quality and maturity by mentoring others, improving practice standards, and enabling teams to move from insight to action.

Your Mission
  • Lead end-to-end qualitative and quantitative UX research across the product lifecycle, from generative discovery through evaluative validation

  • Translate ambiguous product, design, and business questions into clear research plans, methodologies, and actionable outputs

  • Conduct and synthesize research using a range of methods such as usability studies, interviews, surveys, concept testing, diary studies, field research, and journey mapping

  • Deliver credible, insight-rich recommendations that influence roadmap decisions, design direction, and customer experience strategy

  • Partner closely with Product Managers, UX Designers, Engineers, Data partners, and business stakeholders to identify opportunities and integrate research into planning and execution

  • Advocate for the user by connecting research findings to measurable product and customer outcomes

  • Coach and guide designers, PMs, and other collaborators on research best practices, study design, and insight activation

  • Contribute to the growth of OneTrust's research practice through templates, documentation, reusable frameworks, and high-quality storytelling

  • Leverage tools such as analytics platforms, feedback channels, and AI-assisted workflows responsibly to improve efficiency while maintaining rigor, human judgment, and research ethics

  • Ensure research is conducted in a way that reflects strong standards for privacy, consent, accessibility, and trust

You Are
  • A strong champion for the user, research craft, and thoughtful product experiences

  • A systems thinker who can connect user insight to product strategy, business goals, and technical realities

  • Comfortable balancing speed and rigor in a fast-paced, product-minded environment

  • Skilled at turning research findings into clear, persuasive narratives that drive alignment and action

  • Highly collaborative and able to build trusted relationships across Product, Design, Engineering, and leadership

  • Curious, pragmatic, and self-directed, with the ability to identify important questions and drive them to resolution

  • Comfortable operating in complex B2B and enterprise SaaS environments

  • Thoughtful about responsible and ethical use of AI in research workflows

Your Experience Includes
  • 4+ years of relevant UX research experience working on digital products and generating actionable insights that drive measurable impact

  • Degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Psychology, Human Factors, Sociology, Anthropology, Design Research, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience

  • Deep understanding of qualitative and quantitative research methods at scale, including usability evaluation, stakeholder interviews, surveys, focus groups, ethnographic research, diary studies, and concept testing

  • Ability to independently scope, design, execute, synthesize, and communicate impactful research in a fast-paced product development environment

  • Experience integrating research into product and design roadmaps and influencing both short-term decisions and longer-term strategy

  • Strong storytelling and communication skills, with the ability to explain research process, findings, tradeoffs, and recommendations to diverse audiences

  • Experience collaborating cross-functionally with Product Managers, Designers, Engineers, and business stakeholders

  • Experience working in B2B or enterprise SaaS environments

  • Familiarity with research and analytics tools such as Pendo, Maze, survey platforms, repository systems, or similar solutions

  • Ability to use AI-enabled tools to support synthesis, pattern identification, or workflow efficiency while maintaining research integrity, quality, and ethical standards

  • Experience working in regulated or trust-sensitive domains is a plus
