Job Description
The Office of Information Technologist Services at the University of Tennessee at Martin is accepting applicants for a Web and Digital Experience Strategist position. The Web & Digital Experience Strategist provides strategic leadership for the University's web and digital experience ecosystem. This role guides the planning, visual direction, governance, and continuous improvement of user-centered, accessible, and brand-aligned digital platforms, including the University's flagship website.
The Strategist ensures digital experiences are intuitive, consistent, and aligned with institutional goals by applying user experience (UX) principles, establishing standards, and collaborating with campus partners. This position plays a key role in shaping audiences engage online.
Responsibilities
• Provide strategic direction for the University's web and digital platforms.
• Help lead the planning and evolution of the flagship website and related digital properties.
• Serve as a strategic advisor to campus partners on digital initiatives.
• Develop and steward the University's Web Design System and user experience (UX) standards.
• Define and evolve the visual design language for web and digital platforms.
• Establish scalable guidelines and patterns that ensure consistency and accessibility.
• Provide guidance on UX strategy, visual direction, interaction design, and information architecture.
• Review digital implementations to ensure alignment with standards and brand guidelines.
• Conduct audits to ensure usability, performance, accuracy, and brand alignment.
• Monitor mobile responsiveness and digital performance.
• Ensure compliance with accessibility standards (WCAG) and support inclusive design practices.
• Monitor industry trends and emerging technologies in digital experience.
• Recommend enhancements that improve usability, effectiveness, and sustainability.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree and three (3) or more years of relevant professional experience in web strategy, digital experience, user experience (UX), or a closely related field. An equivalent combination of education, training, and professional experience may be considered.
• Demonstrated knowledge of user experience (UX) principles, information architecture, and user-centered design practices.
• Baseline understanding of HTML and how front-end code structures content and supports accessibility (hands-on programming not required).
• Strong understanding of web standards and accessibility best practices.
• Ability to evaluate and improve digital experiences using qualitative and quantitative data.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
• Five (5) or more years of experience supporting or leading enterprise-level or centrally managed web initiatives.
• Experience guiding design systems, governance frameworks, or large-scale web platforms.
• Familiarity with analytics tools and data-informed digital strategy.
• Experience working within higher education or similarly complex organizational environments.
