What is a User Experience Developer?

A User Experience (UX) Developer is a professional who focuses on creating seamless, intuitive, and engaging digital experiences by combining design principles with front-end development skills. They bridge the gap between designers and developers, ensuring that web or app interfaces are both visually appealing and functionally effective. UX Developers use their understanding of user behavior, usability, and accessibility to implement interactive features and optimize user satisfaction. Their work typically involves prototyping, coding, user testing, and refining interfaces based on feedback. Ultimately, they help ensure that products are easy to use and meet the needs of their target audience.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a User Experience Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a User Experience Developer, you need a solid understanding of UX principles, front-end development skills (such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript), and often a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with design tools like Figma or Sketch, as well as frameworks like React or Angular, is typically expected. Strong collaboration, problem-solving, and communication skills help you translate user needs into functional, engaging interfaces. These abilities are crucial for creating seamless, user-centered products that drive satisfaction and business success.

How does a User Experience Developer typically collaborate with designers and developers on projects?

A User Experience Developer frequently acts as a bridge between UI/UX designers and backend developers. They work closely with designers to translate visual concepts and wireframes into interactive, accessible, and responsive interfaces, ensuring the end product matches design intent. Additionally, they collaborate with developers to integrate user-facing elements with server-side logic and optimize application performance. Regular communication, code reviews, and iterative feedback sessions are common, fostering a collaborative environment that prioritizes both usability and technical feasibility.

Job description

Description

Transitions Group is a Wichita-based, employee-owned company made up of three brands: ย Furniture Options, Viciniti, and Abode Home, all focused on helping people through life and work transitions with flexible housing and furniture solutions. We are a team of over 100 entrepreneurial-minded employee owners who are people-focused, and committed to making things easier for our customers. ย

If you're a hands-on web developer who loves solving ecommerce problems, improving customer experience, and making digital experiences work better every day, we'd love to talk to you.

We're looking for someone who can jump into an existing web ecosystem, make smart improvements, manage outside partners, and help create a better online experience for our customers. This isn't a build-a-site-from-scratch role. ย It's for someone who knows how to work within a live ecommerce environment, spot issues quickly, and turn ideas into practical solutions.

As an employee-owned company, we take pride in building a culture where people think like owners, move with purpose, and bring an entrepreneurial mindset to the table. We value people who are collaborative, resourceful, and excited to make a real impact.

What You'll Do

In this role, you'll help keep our ecommerce websites running smoothly, performing well, and delivering a strong customer experience. You'll work across web development, UX-minded improvements, third-party vendor coordination, and technical integrations, especially APIs and webhooks that keep our systems connected and our processes moving.

A few of the things you'll be focused on:

Hands-on web development and ecommerce support

Work directly in our WordPress environment to improve site performance, functionality, and day-to-day usability.

Make practical code updates and enhancements using tools like PHP, JavaScript, and SQL without needing to build an entire site from the ground up.

Test changes in staging environments, troubleshoot issues, and help make sure updates are solid before they go live.

APIs, webhooks, and connected systems

Build, manage, and troubleshoot APIs and webhooks that connect our websites with internal tools, CRMs, automation platforms, and other business systems.

Help turn manual workflows into cleaner, more reliable automated processes while protecting data accuracy and the customer experience.

Customer experience, UX, and vendor management

Look at the website through the eyes of the customer and identify opportunities to improve usability, reduce friction, and support conversion.

Partner with internal teams and outside vendors to move web projects forward, solve issues quickly, and keep priorities aligned.

Help balance UX, technical limitations, and business needs to find smart ecommerce solutions that actually work.

You'll also help oversee the technical health of our web environment by working with hosting and platform partners, supporting uptime, site stability, security, backups, and overall performance.

What You'll Do

We're looking for someone who is technical, practical, customer-minded, and comfortable working across both code and coordination.

Hands-on experience working in WordPress/WooCommerce or a similar ecommerce web environment.

Strong experience with APIs, webhooks, and data integrations between websites and business systems.

Working knowledge of PHP, JavaScript, jQuery, and SQL, with the ability to make code-level improvements and troubleshoot issues.

A strong customer and UX mindset (you care about how people actually use a website, not just how it is built.)

Experience working with outside vendors or platform partners and keeping projects moving.

A problem-solving approach, good judgment, and the ability to work well in a fast-moving, entrepreneurial environment.

Experience That Helps

The ideal background might include some of the following, but if you check most of the boxes and love solving ecommerce problems, we still want to hear from you.

Experience supporting an ecommerce site in WordPress, WooCommerce, or a similar platform.

A track record of working with APIs, webhooks, system integrations, or automation tools in a live business environment.

Comfort working with third-party vendors, agencies, hosting partners, or platform providers.

Experience troubleshooting site issues, testing updates, and improving overall site performance and reliability.

An eye for customer experience, conversion, and UX improvements that make online buying easier.

We're open to different backgrounds here. ย What matters most is that you can step in, understand the moving parts, and help make the web experience better for both the business and the customer.

Why Join Us

This is the kind of role where you can make a real difference. ย You'll have the chance to solve problems, improve the customer experience, and help shape how our ecommerce presence continues to grow.

Be part of an employee-owned company where people think like owners and your work has visible impact.

Join an entrepreneurial culture that values initiative, problem-solving, and practical ideas.

Work on meaningful ecommerce challenges that blend technology, customer experience, and business goals.

Collaborate with a team that wants to keep improving, move quickly, and build smarter solutions together. ย
