Job description

The University of Iowa Health Care is seeking a 50% Medical Assistant II to work in our Bettendorf Psychiatry Clinic. The University of Iowa Community Clinics (UICC) is seeking a patient centered 50% Medical Assistant to work within our Psychiatry Clinic located in Bettendorf, IA. We use a patient-centered care approach-a partnership between you and your team of providers, nurses and therapists-to develop a therapeutic treatment plan that meets your needs. This position will mainly support Psychiatry but could also support other service lines/clinics based on clinical needs/hours.

Duties to include:
  • Staff will support our Psychiatry Clinic and will float to other clinical areas based on staffing need.
  • Under direct supervision of physician, physician assistant, nurse practitioner or registered nurse.

  • Duties may involve the use of electronic word/data processing equipment and/or conventional office equipment.

  • Responsible for facilitating the smooth flow of patients through the clinic through interaction with patients, families, and staff.

  • Assist in clinic with patient care.
  • Record and access patient history, medication records, screenings, and allergies.
  • Obtain and/or record vital signs.

  • May administer medications not requiring a high level of skill or nursing judgment. These are medications that can only be administered by certified medical assistants or medical assistants who have completed a formal accredited training program.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Percent of Time: 50% (20 per week)
Schedule: Monday and Thursday with variable hours between 7:00am - 5:30pm
Location: Bettendorf, IA *(and surrounding clinics based on clinical need/hours)
Pay Grade: 9
Salary: $20,859.12-$30,985.92 (based on years of experience)
Minimum Eligibility Requirements
  • Certification OR registration as a Medical Assistant OR completion of a recognized one-year Medical Assistant Program, OR Completion of a health care profession program with a curriculum incorporating elements of a Medical Assistant program including but not limited to: pathophysiology, medical terminology, basic pharmacology and medication administration including dose calculation and psychology.

Special Qualification/License:
  • Driver's License and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards.
  • Availability to provide support to other clinical locations based on clinical need/hours
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Highly Desired Qualifications
  • Previous EPIC experience
  • Previous Psychiatric patient care

Desired Qualifications
  • Ability to demonstrate teamwork and autonomy in all aspects of the role
  • Previous phlebotomy experience
