Position Summary 


The Automotive Used Car Reconditioning Technician is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing preowned vehicles as part of the dealership’s reconditioning process. This role ensures that all used vehicles meet OEM and dealership standards for safety, quality, and performance before being offered for sale. The ideal candidate has strong technical skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment with multiple vehicles moving through the reconditioning pipeline.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Perform comprehensive vehicle inspections to identify mechanical, electrical, cosmetic, and safety related repair needs.
  • Complete required repairs and maintenance tasks—including brakes, suspension, steering, tires, fluids, drivability concerns, and minor engine or electrical work.
  • Diagnose issues using dealership approved tools, equipment, and OEM diagnostic systems. 
  • Document all findings and repair recommendations accurately on inspection forms and repair orders.
  • Collaborate with the Used Car Manager, Service Advisors, and Parts Department to prioritize repairs and ensure timely reconditioning. 
  • Install parts, complete warranty or internal repairs, and ensure proper parts usage and documentation. 
  • Perform quality control checks on completed work to ensure vehicles meet dealership and OEM standards before lot readiness.
  • Conduct road tests when required to confirm repair accuracy and vehicle performance. 
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment while following dealership and manufacturer safety protocols. 
  • Stay current with OEM training requirements, technical bulletins, and best practices for used vehicle reconditioning. 
  • All other duties as assigned by leadership.


Qualifications

  • Red Seal Certified Automotive Service Technician or equivalent experience; dealership background preferred.
  • Strong diagnostic and repair skills with experience across a wide range of makes and models. 
  • Knowledge of used car reconditioning processes, multipoint inspections, and repair prioritization. 
  • Proficiency with OEM and aftermarket diagnostic tools, scan equipment, and related software. 
  • Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple vehicles in workflow. 
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to high-quality workmanship.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a fast-paced reconditioning team.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required. 
  • Additional OEM certifications or training are considered an asset.
