About the Role
As a Machine Builder, you will play a hands-on role in integrating equipment and building robotic cells from the ground up, primarily within automotive and industrial automation environments. This role is ideal for skilled trades professionals with backgrounds in Millwrighting, Industrial Maintenance, Tool & Die, or custom machine building who enjoy working on complex automation systems and seeing projects come to life.
In this role, you will build, assemble, plumb, erect, test, disassemble, and install automated machinery and fixtures. Working from engineered drawings and schematics, you will identify opportunities to improve functionality, efficiency, maintainability, and overall build quality while collaborating closely with engineering and project teams.
We're looking for individuals who take pride in craftsmanship, enjoy solving mechanical challenges, and are interested in growing their technical and leadership capabilities within a fast-paced automation environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Analyze drawings and coordinate with engineering to make changes where improvements can be made to reduce rework and enable an efficient build, increase accuracy, enhance functionality, and make post-installation maintenance easier
  • Obtain and organize materials required to construct automated machinery
  • Fabricate parts operating various fabrication equipment including plasma cutter, manual lathe, manual mill, pedestal grinders, MIG Welder, TIG Welder, band saws, hand grinders, drill presses, etc.
  • Conduct tests of parts to identify defects and ensure parts meet required specifications
  • Assemble Machines and tooling using approved design packages, build kits, and tooling kits
  • Generate solutions to machine build problems and implement
  • Complete modifications to existing equipment due to engineering changes
  • Attend area whiteboard meetings for planning area activities
  • Attend project white board meetings to present if directed, acknowledging the progress and plan, understanding the status of other disciplines, understand upcoming key milestones and project risk
  • Participate in design reviews to analyze mechanical designs and identify areas of improvement to increase accuracy and efficiency
  • Implement BOS Standards, identify potential areas of improvement and present them to the Build Team Supervisor
  • Create a layout plan for plumbing while considering efficiency, functionality, future maintenance and appearance
  • Complete the mounting and plumbing of the system including piping assembly, installing water and hydraulic supply and creating pneumatic plates

Requirements
  • Licensed Millwright, Tool & Die Maker, Industrial Technician, or equivalent skilled trades background
  • Experience in industrial automation, machine building, custom machinery, tooling, manufacturing, or related industrial environments
  • Strong understanding of mechanical assembly processes, fabrication methods, welding practices, and safe operating procedures
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, schematics, and build documentation
  • Experience operating fabrication and assembly equipment, including grinders, welders, plasma cutters, drill presses, mills, lathes, and other shop tools
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot mechanical issues, identify build improvements, and implement practical solutions during assembly and installation
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and commitment to producing high-quality workmanship
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a project team while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Willingness and ability to travel for training, machine installation, commissioning, and customer support activities as required
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the United States and able to travel to Canada for training and project-related activities
