Job description

Job Title: Senior Transmission Line Engineer
Role Overview
We are seeking a Senior Transmission Line Engineer to lead the design and engineering of complex high-voltage infrastructure projects. You will act as a technical authority, responsible for independently planning and executing project designs, conducting technical studies, and ensuring all deliverables meet rigorous regulatory and safety standards.
This is a journey-level role for an engineer who has mastered the fundamentals and is ready to own larger, more complex infrastructure initiatives. You will bridge the gap between conceptual design and field construction, providing technical guidance to contractors and external vendors while ensuring the long-term reliability of our transmission network.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering & Design Leadership
• Technical Design: Conduct advanced engineering analyses and develop conceptual designs for high-voltage transmission lines (115kV-500kV).
• Design Oversight: Review and approve technical documents, design criteria, specifications, and CAD drawings. Ensure all designs strictly adhere to national standards (NESC) and internal safety codes.
• Project Planning: Independently manage project scope, schedule, and technical requirements. Provide cost-effective alternatives and evaluate project proposals for technical feasibility and compliance.
Collaboration & Project Execution
• Consultant Management: Solicit, prepare, and evaluate technical proposals from engineering consultants. Review third-party work for technical compliance and quality assurance.
• Stakeholder Liaison: Represent the engineering team to government bodies, internal project managers, and construction personnel. Facilitate design review meetings and project "walkdowns."
• Operational Support: Assist in root-cause analysis for system failures and participate in emergency restoration planning. Provide rapid-response technical support for facility issues.
Qualifications & Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
• Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited curriculum.
• Experience Baseline: Minimum of three (3) years of cumulative experience in engineering and design for transmission systems.
• Technical Mastery:
oExtensive familiarity with PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, or equivalent industry-standard line design software.
oDeep understanding of NESC (National Electrical Safety Code) and high-voltage construction practices.
• Project Management: Strong ability to plan work independently, manage project deliverables, and coordinate with construction and field personnel.
Preferred Attributes
• Proven experience specifically in high-voltage transmission design (115kV-500kV range).
• Experience developing technical reports, restoration plans, and contract specifications.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills-the ability to present technical findings to both internal leadership and external government agencies.
