Job description

About LaValley Building Supply

Contractor-retail lumber yards and home centers; truss and wall panel fabrication; a world class paint and decorating center; a custom “off-site construction” modular home division; and one of the largest, most modern Eastern White Pine sawmills in New England, LaValley Building Supply has what our customers need to successfully complete any project. Company founders, Harold and Gerry LaValley remain active in the business, and the LaValley brand today consists of 14 locations that offer our customers a “one stop shop” for all of their building needs.

About the Role:

The Non-CDL Driver plays a crucial role in ensuring the timely and safe transportation of goods and materials throughout New England. This position requires a strong commitment to customer service, as drivers will interact with clients and ensure their needs are met during deliveries. The primary end result of this role is to maintain a high level of efficiency in logistics operations while adhering to all safety regulations and company policies. Drivers will be responsible for maintaining the vehicle in good working condition, which includes regular inspections and reporting any issues. Ultimately, the Non-CDL Driver contributes significantly to the overall success of the company's supply chain and customer satisfaction.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid driver's license, Medical Card, and a clean driving record.
  • Ability to lift heavy items and perform physical tasks as required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience as a driver in a logistics or delivery role.
  • Familiarity with local routes and traffic patterns.
  • Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance and repair.

Responsibilities:

  • Operate non-CDL vehicles to transport goods to designated locations in a timely manner.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle to ensure safety and compliance.
  • Load and unload cargo, ensuring that all items are secured and handled properly.
  • Maintain accurate records of deliveries, including mileage, fuel consumption, and delivery confirmations.
  • Communicate effectively with dispatch and customers to provide updates on delivery status.

Skills:

The required skills for this position include strong driving abilities and a thorough understanding of safety regulations, which are essential for ensuring the safe transport of goods. Effective communication skills are necessary for interacting with customers and dispatch, allowing for smooth operations and customer satisfaction. Physical stamina and strength are important for loading and unloading cargo, which is a daily part of the job. Additionally, problem-solving skills are beneficial for addressing any unexpected issues that may arise during deliveries. Preferred skills, such as knowledge of vehicle maintenance, can enhance the driver's ability to keep the vehicle in optimal condition, contributing to overall efficiency. Pay scale based on experience.
