Job description

What You'll Do

The Mechanical Design Engineer creates and maintains high-quality CAD models, assemblies, and drawing packs for motor components and related hardware. They define interfaces, tolerances, fits, and manufacturing requirements in a way that enables precision builds and efficient supplier execution. The role combines detail-oriented documentation ownership with practical design-for-manufacture judgment across machining, assembly, and scaling.

A Day in the Life

This role works closely with motor design, test and validation, manufacturing, CNC suppliers, quality, and production teams. They collaborate across prototype and factory environments to improve manufacturability, drawing clarity, inspection readiness, and revision control discipline.

What You'll Do

      Own CAD models, assemblies, drawings, revisions, and release processes for motor hardware.

      Create high-quality 2D manufacturing drawings with complete GD&T, datums, and inspection requirements.

      Apply strong design-for-manufacture principles for machining, assembly, and production scale-up.

      Manage tolerance stack-ups and critical fits including bearings, shafts, press and slip fits, and fastener interfaces.

      Define metal-to-metal interactions with consideration for wear, corrosion, thermal expansion, and service life.

      Work with production and CNC suppliers to improve manufacturability and drawing clarity.

      Maintain drawing standards, revision control, and documentation quality across hardware releases.

      Support rapid iteration during prototype builds without compromising documentation integrity.

What You'll Bring

      Strong CAD skills with 3+ years industry experience managing assemblies and drawing packs using SolidWorks, Inventor, Fusion 360, Onshape, or similar CAD packages

      Proven ability to produce high-quality 2D manufacturing drawings with GD&T.

      Solid design-for-manufacture background, ideally with machining exposure.

      Strong understanding of tolerance stack-ups, fits, and precision interfaces.

      Practical knowledge of materials and metal interactions in real hardware.

      High attention to detail in precision manufacturing environments.

Nice to Have

      Mechanical FEA experience, including structural or thermal analysis.

      Experience with motors, rotating machinery, or tight-tolerance components.

      Familiarity with metrology and inspection methods for precision parts.

      Exposure to product lifecycle management, release workflows, or configuration control systems.
