Job description

Unusual Machines is a U.S.-based drone and drone parts company focused on the small and First-Person View (FPV) segments of the drone market. Our brands - Rotor Riot and Fat Shark - are two of the most respected names in FPV and have helped shape the industry through e-commerce, product development, and a deep connection with the pilot community.

We're expanding into enterprise and defense - bringing our obsessive attention to performance, design, and U.S.-based manufacturing into high-stakes environments like search and rescue and military innovation. With several of our products already approved by the Defense Innovation Unit, we're solving procurement issues for customers who demand speed, agility, and compliance.

If you love working at the intersection of community, content, and cutting-edge technology, you'll feel right at home here.

You in this Role

The Receiving Inspector is responsible for ensuring that all incoming materials, components, and finished goods meet Unusual Machines' established quality standards before they are accepted into inventory or released to production. This role plays a critical part in our supply chain integrity and commitment to delivering reliable, high-performance drone products. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, technically proficient, and passionate about quality.

What You'll Do

• Inspect incoming shipments of drone components, electronic assemblies, mechanical parts, and raw materials against purchase orders, drawings, and specifications.

• Perform dimensional, visual, and functional checks using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other inspection tools.

• Verify quantity, part numbers, lot numbers, and documentation (Certificates of Conformance, test reports, country of origin) for each shipment.

• Record inspection results accurately in the quality management system (QMS) and maintain detailed inspection logs.

• Identify, tag, and quarantine nonconforming material; initiate and track nonconformance reports (NCRs).

• Collaborate with procurement, engineering, and production teams to resolve supplier quality issues promptly.

• Support supplier corrective action requests (SCARs) and assist in root cause analysis efforts.

• Maintain calibration records for inspection equipment and ensure tools are within calibration intervals.

• Assist in developing and updating receiving inspection procedures, acceptance criteria, and work instructions.

• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives related to incoming quality and supplier performance.

What You'll Bring

• High school diploma or GED required; Associate's degree or technical certification in Quality, Manufacturing, or a related field preferred.

• 2+ years of experience in receiving inspection, incoming quality control, or a related manufacturing quality role.

• Proficiency with hand measurement tools: calipers, micrometers, height gauges, go/no-go gauges, and optical comparators.

• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and bill of materials (BOMs).

• Familiarity with quality standards such as ISO 9001, AS9100, or IPC-A-610.

• Experience with quality management systems (QMS) for documentation and NCR tracking.

• Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work independently.

• Effective written and verbal communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in the electronics, aerospace, defense, or consumer technology industries.

• Familiarity with FPV drones, RC systems, or related electronics hardware.

• Knowledge of ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) handling procedures.

• Experience with First Article Inspection (FAI) processes.

• ASQ Certified Quality Inspector (CQI) or equivalent certification.

• Experience working with domestic and international suppliers.

Hourly Range: $26.00- $30.00

Benefits

  • Equity is included for all exempt positions
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision Benefits
  • 401(k)
  • Unlimited PTO
