Job Announcement
Join the Park Authority and our nationally recognized team of professionals! This position works as a part of one of the most highly regarded park systems in the country. With more than 25,000 acres of parkland, nine Recenters, eight golf courses, three lakefront parks, and more, FCPA is an exciting organization to be a part of and there are many opportunities for staff to make a difference at every level.
Under general supervision, performs various semi-skilled maintenance and/or construction tasks and performs related work as required. Participates in the work of an assigned athletic field or park maintenance crew, performing semi-skilled and unskilled tasks relating to grounds maintenance and facility repairs. May lead a crew in the absence of maintenance crew chief, inspects and approves the work of maintenance workers. Performs maintenance on park facilities e.g., athletic fields, sport courts, picnic areas, playgrounds, amphitheaters, trails, restrooms, parking lots, signs, fencing, etc. Duties include mowing, snow removal, and other grounds maintenance tasks. Removes litter and performs rough carpentry, light construction, minor repairs, and painting of facilities, as necessary. Operates a tractor/bucket loader with attachments, infield groomers, utility vehicles, mowers, and other equipment. Uses gas powered equipment such as trimmer, blower, and chainsaw. Inspects and drives a truck with and without a trailer combination to haul equipment and materials. Informs supervisor of conditions requiring special attention. Maintains tools and equipment in good working order. Completes daily work reports when supervising a crew. Performs related duties as required.
Note: Reports each morning to Area 3 Maintenance Shop, 3900 Stoneybrooke Drive, Alexandria, VA., and is dispatched to assigned parks. In addition to hauling and equipment operation, this position is part of the overall labor team. 40-hour work week, Monday through Friday, with overtime required when necessary. Occasional weekend, evening, and holiday work required. Positions are subject to transfer to other maintenance operation locations. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of the position. Position is Emergency Service Personnel.

  • Provides guidance and training to Maintenance Workers;
  • Transports crew and equipment to work site;
  • May lead a crew in absence of Maintenance Crew Chief;
  • Inspects, and reviews work of a crew engaged in a variety of basic maintenance, construction and grounds keeping activities;
  • May Lead grass cutting, sodding, seeding, and fertilizing activities;
  • Leads playground equipment maintenance;
  • Completes daily and preventive maintenance reports;
  • Trains staff;
  • Implements safety procedures;
  • Engages in safe working practices and complies with safety programs and guidelines;
  • Reports and monitors unsafe working conditions;

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Employment Standards
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to completion of the tenth grade; and two years of experience in maintenance, construction, or a related field.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Driver's license (required)
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, driving record check, and pre-employment medical evaluation to the satisfaction of the employer.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Combination of two years of athletic field maintenance or parks ground maintenance experience
  • Two years of experience operating various small-engine riding equipment, such as: tractors, mowers, utility vehicles and other park maintenance equipment to include battery-operated and hand-held power equipment.
  • Able to perform manual labor.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Ability to bend, stoop, crawl and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Ability to climb on and off equipment. Ability to lift 50 lbs. Ability to operate grounds equipment. Ability to operate motor vehicle and trailer. Ability to stand or walk for extended periods of time.
