Job description

Scoular is seeking motivated grain elevator operators to join our team and contribute to our mission of creating safe and reliable supply chain solutions for our customers. This role will also act as back up for our existing Scale Operator.

  • Safely load and unload incoming and outgoing grain while assisting with the weighing and grading of grain trucks.
  • Operate heavy equipment (loaders, skid steer loaders, track mobiles, rail car movers, etc.)
  • Manage grain storage by creating and moving grain piles, as well as performing general cleaning and housekeeping of bins and storage structures.
  • Ensure a safe work environment by adhering to safety protocols and promptly reporting any unsafe practices or hazards.
  • Perform general maintenance tasks as needed to support operations.
  • Backup to work scales for unloads, loadouts and containers as needed. Weigh all trucks coming into and leaving the facility and directing trucks to the proper location for loading and unloading. Enter all customer and commodity information into tracking system. Communicate with the production crew to ensure timely unloading of trucks.
  • Act as backup to probe inbound trucks to collect commodity sample. Properly grade each grain sample and enter correctly into the scale interface system.
  • Support the Scale Operator in housekeeping duties to keep area within the office area and scale room clean and presentable.
  • Greet customers and visitors (both in person and via telephone) in a professional and courteous manner and direct them to the appropriate individual if necessary.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment physical and drug screening
  • Flexibility to work overtime, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme heat (90-120F), cold (subzero), and high winds (40+ mph).
  • Must be comfortable with climbing ladders, heights, and working in confined spaces
  • Must be able to work in environments with dust and airborne particles, including grain dust
  • Wear required PPE, such as hard hats, safety glasses, and safety footwear.
  • Ability to perform strenuous physical tasks, including lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs. multiple times per day and standing on hard surfaces for extended periods
  • Experience in a grain facility preferred but not required
