Job description

Samsung's Taylor, Texas semiconductor fabrication facility represents one of the largest and most advanced manufacturing investments in the United States, backed by an initial $17 billion commitment to build a cutting-edge chip production hub. The site is designed to become a cornerstone of Samsung's U.S. semiconductor strategy. As part of a long-term vision to expand U.S. chip production capacity, the Taylor facility positions top engineering talent at the center of a rapidly growing technology cluster with global impact.
Position Summary:
The Linux/UNIX Systems Engineer is responsible for the implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of Samsung SDSA's Linux-based datacenter and state of the art FAB production environment. In this role you will help design, deploy, and maintain Linux-based servers and appliances, contribute to disaster-recovery readiness, and support high-availability operations. You will work closely with senior engineers while providing reliable day-to-day support for our production environment.
Responsibilities:
  • Platform Administration - Manage and tune UNIX and Enterprise-Fedora Linux platforms (Red Hat, CentOS, Oracle Linux, Rocky, etc.).
  • Patch & Upgrade Cycle - Assist in planning and executing OS patching, minor upgrades, and migration activities under guidance.
  • Server Operations - Perform routine monitoring, configuration, troubleshooting, and minor upgrades of physical and virtual servers.
  • Environment Support - Support Production, Development, QA, Test, and Disaster-Recovery system installations and updates.
  • Performance Monitoring - Use monitoring tools to spot performance anomalies, respond to alerts, and document changes.
  • Asset Tracking - Keep hardware/software inventory current and ensure documentation is up-to-date.
  • On-Call Rotation - Participate in a 24 x 7 x 365 on-call schedule for assigned UNIX/Linux servers (both physical and virtual).
  • Collaboration & Mentorship - Work with senior engineers to refine processes and provide guidance to Tier-1 staff as needed.

Requirements
  • 4+ years of hands-on experience administering Linux systems in enterprise or manufacturing environments.
  • Hands-on experience on Linux Distribution Platforms (RedHat, Oracle Linux, CentOS, Rocky, etc.)
  • Experience on Dell PowerEdge and Oracle x86 servers
  • Proven experience & ability on Linux opensource applications' deployment
  • Advanced troubleshooting including analysis of Linux system logs, diagnosing performance or reliability issues, and driving root-cause resolution.
  • Highly proficient in Bash scripting ability for automation and routine tasks.
  • Possesses excellent communication skills and ability to partner with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Maintains meticulous documentation habits and proactively shares insights that strengthen team capability.
  • Thrives in high-availability, fast-paced environments and responds effectively to urgent or after-hours support needs.
  • Must be eligible to work in the US for any employer without restrictions.
  • Must be willing and able to work full time onsite in Taylor, TX
Preferred (Nice-to-Have) Qualifications
  • Background in UNIX administration (e.g., Solaris, AIX).
  • Exposure to clustering technologies such as Pacemaker/Corosync or equivalent.
  • Experience with Oracle Exadata appliances or other specialized hardware.
  • Relevant certifications (RHCE, RHCSA, Linux+, etc.) or a degree in Computer Science/Engineering.
