Senior UNIX Systems Administrator


On behalf of our client, Procom Services is searching for a Sr UNIX Administrator for a contract opportunity. This resource can be based in either Durham, NC or Dallas, TX.


Senior UNIX Administrator Job Details


  • Directly supporting new, and existing customers, including:
  • UNIX or Linux systems design, architecture, and support.
  • Support and maintain an active disaster recovery plan.
  • Ability to identify and automate processes.
  • Expert understanding of UNIX/Linux internals.
  • Occasions of afterhours work, always on-call as 2nd/3rd level support.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Work productively in cooperation with others on a consistent basis.
  • Respond positively to direction and criticism of performance.


Sr UNIX Administrator Mandatory Skills


  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
  • UNIX or Linux Certification desired.
  • 8+ years overall IT experience
  • 5+ years with UNIX/Linux
  • Proven sills' with UNIX ( At least two required AIX, Solaris, HPUX )
  • Proven skill's with LINUX ( At least two required Suse, RHEL, OEL, CentOS, Ubuntu )
  • Experience building physical, & virtual systems using ( OVM, LPAR(s), Zones, VMWare/VSphere )
  • Experience working with IBM Hardware utilizing an HMC, & redundant VIO Server 's
  • Strong understanding of patch management across UNIX, & Linux systems.
  • Experience with UNIX/Linux monitoring tools.
  • ITIL processes, & procedures
  • Experience working with Storage Area Networks.
  • Experience supporting remote locations.
  • Scripting experience in Shell, or Perl desired.
  • Excellent Interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with internal/external customers.
  • Leadership skills to guide, and mentor the work of less experienced personnel
  • Ability to lead, and work as a team.
