Job description

Position Summary: The University Club of Saint Paul is seeking an experienced, highly motivated, and service-oriented Personal Trainer to provide exceptional fitness instruction and wellness coaching to our private club members. This independent professional will play an important role in delivering a premium member experience by promoting healthy lifestyles through personalized fitness programs, education, and encouragement.
The ideal candidate is nationally certified, fully insured, and demonstrates outstanding professionalism, technical expertise, and customer service that reflects the high standards of the University Club.
Qualifications
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
  • Current nationally recognized personal training certification from one or more of the following:
    • NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine)
    • ACE (American Council on Exercise)
    • ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine)
    • NSCA (National Strength and Conditioning Association)
    • ISSA (International Sports Sciences Association)
    • Equivalent nationally accredited certification approved by the Club
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid Certification
  • Minimum of two (2) years of professional personal training experience preferred
  • Proof of current professional liability insurance
  • Ability to pass a background check
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Professional appearance and demeanor appropriate for a private club environment

Essential Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive fitness assessments and health consultations.
  • Develop individualized exercise programs tailored to each member's goals and abilities.
  • Provide safe, effective, and engaging one-on-one personal training sessions.
  • Educate members on exercise techniques, injury prevention, nutrition fundamentals, and healthy lifestyle habits.
  • Monitor member progress and adjust programs as needed.
  • Maintain accurate client records while protecting member confidentiality.
  • Ensure all fitness equipment is used safely and maintained in a clean, organized condition.
  • Promote wellness services and help grow the Club's personal training program.
  • Build positive relationships with members while delivering exceptional customer service.
  • Maintain a welcoming and inclusive fitness environment.

Professional Expectations
The Personal Trainer is expected to:
  • Represent the University Club with professionalism, integrity, and courtesy at all times.
  • Deliver a luxury-level member experience consistent with a private club environment.
  • Arrive punctually for all scheduled appointments.
  • Dress in clean, professional fitness attire appropriate for a premier private club.
  • Maintain all certifications, licenses, and insurance throughout employment.
  • Comply with all University Club policies and safety procedures.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment, discretion, and respect for member privacy.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a private club, luxury fitness center, or hospitality environment.
  • Specialty certifications in areas such as:
    • Functional Training
    • Corrective Exercise
    • Senior Fitness
    • Sports Performance
    • Nutrition Coaching
    • Group Fitness Instruction
  • Experience working with members of all ages and fitness levels.

Compensation
  • Independent Contractor or Employee status, depending on the final agreement.
