Job Description
A Day in the Life
  • Activities controlled by established procedures and if changes are necessary, it is by instruction of immediate Manager or Lead employee. Must recall and apply learned procedures as situations occur. Must adjust to varying conditions in work situations and apply established procedures.
  • Standing and walking much of the day. Requires bending, stretching, lifting, pulling, pushing, and ladder climbing. Hands in water frequently. Subject to strains. Subject to interruptions as situations warrant.
  • Use of products that are potentially harmful if used improperly. Interruptions in work schedules as situations warrant. Potential of exposure to contagious disease if Universal Precautions are not followed. Use of some semi-automatic and manual cleaning equipment. Subject to extremes of temperature and inclement weather working outdoors.
  • Must wear approved uniform. Must follow all manufactures instructions on chemical dilution and usage of products. Must wear protective equipment relative to product handling. Approved toe protective devise (ANSI Standard #Z41-1983).
  • Gloves, goggles, face shield, gown, mask, and hard hat must be worn as situation warrants and defined in the Safety Standard Act. Must follow all department, hospital and regulatory agency guidelines. Wear PPE (personal protective equipment) as required and have complete knowledge and understanding of Universal Precautions and Blood Borne Pathogen standards.
  • Clean windows, walls, doors, furniture, beds, equipment, sinks, toilets, etc., in patient rooms, treatment areas, offices. and public areas.
  • Vacuum carpets, dust and damp mop floors
  • Hang and/or take down drapes, cubicle curtains, and shades
  • Empty wastebaskets and recycle boxes as scheduled
  • Remove trash and soiled linen from floors using utility cart.
  • Transport furniture, equipment, supplies and clean linen. Will be required to assist other technicians when necessary.
  • Performs all duties of Environmental Services Technician's I & II & III & IV as assigned.
  • All Environmental Services duties are preformed according to specific procedures
  • Operate battery-powered tug and floor cleaning machines. Must demonstrate physical strength, coordination, and competency necessary to operate, make adjustments, and changes to equipment such as floor machines and garden tractor.
  • Yard maintenance - snow shovel, operate snow blower and blade, trim shrubs, mow lawn, rake leaves, trim weeds, etc.
  • Transport furniture and equipment.
  • Operate battery powered tug floor machine.
  • Scrub/strip hard and resilient floors
  • Seal/finish hard and resilient floors.
  • Clean carpets (hot water extraction or spin pad).
  • Must possess a valid State of Michigan driver's license.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications
What's Required
  • High school graduate preferred or GED equivalent.
  • Ability to read and understand written instructions such as labels and work assignments.
  • Housekeeping and/or hospital experience preferred.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing. Ability demonstrated in floor finishing and carpet cleaning.
